The Royal Portrait: Image and Impact

With wonderful essays about Royal portraiture. Also recommend the author's lecture on youtube on the same subject accompanied by the always brilliant David Starkey.

very good picture book

This affordable and well-illustrated book makes for a nice introduction to the subject of royal portaiture. For those with a deeper interest in the subject, however, I feel the author has little new to offer. With all the riches of the Royal Collection (and beyond) and, presumably, the Royal Archives, at her disposal Scott has missed a great opportunity.

この本は、よくありがちな王室の歴史を綴ったものではなく、王の肖像画に焦点を当て、それにまつわる歴史が解説されています。英国王室のロイヤルコレクション出版だけあって、肖像画は歴史本やネットにありがちな絵の人物部分のみを抜粋されたもので無く、肖像画全体がフルカラーで載せられています。肖像画はリチャード2世からエリザベス2世までですが、アン女王など全員の肖像画が掲載されている訳ではありません。王の肖像画に焦点を当てた本は洋書でも少なく、内容ならば堂々5つ星を付けられるのですが、残念な点として値段の割に装丁、印刷が雑な点があるので4つ星です。
