Q: Does this have a smooth surface for drawing ( thanks )

Yes, but I don't recommend. The easel surface, when opened and upright for drawing or painting doesn't stay locked firmly in the 'up' position. Even mild pressure of drawing pushes it downward. You need to prop it up with something so it stays still.

Q: what are the inside dimensions? Im wondering how much storage space is inside

The inside is very roomy. Lots of room for pencils, brushes, paint. Dimensions in other reply are correct and the space is divided into compartments with room to store pad or canvas on top of the compartments. I really like this and highly recommend it. Originally I was looking for just an easel but so glad I chose this.

Q: Can u adjust the easel to different angles to lean back farther?

The easel as you can see is also a case. The top opens to a 90 degree angle and yes, kt can be adjusted to narrower angles to go back, with buttervly washers found on the inside of the case. From the picture it shows a paint pallet, there was none. Hope I helped
