The Bronze Bow: A Newbery Award Winner

Read and re-read since my childhood I love this book. I bought this as a gift to pass it on to someone else to love. Which they did.

A very good book! I thought the story was very educational but interesting at the same time! It has interesting characters and a great plot! A must have!

I was first introduced to this book in my 8th grade English class. I enjoyed it so much then, I went out and read the author's other books. I recently picked this one up again and was amazed at how powerful it still was to me.The story concerns Daniel, a young Jew at the time of Christ. He has an intense hatred of the Romans and lives with an outlaw band in the hills. When his grandmother dies, he must move to the village to take care of his sister while trying to continue his life's mission of driving the Romans back to Rome. He is drawn to the miracle worker, but just doesn't know what he truly thinks about him. Is he the Messiah sent to free them from the Romans? And will his sister ever recover?Ms. Speare was able to create a complex plot that is simple enough for her target age to understand, but still captivating to adults. I got so caught up in the events when I was rereading that I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this children's novel to readers of all ages.

also this is a great book!!! I love how it ties in the life of Christ with the story of this young boy.

We thoroughly enjoyed this book. I used it as a read-a-loud for my 6th grader and we both loved it. A behind the sence of Jesus' Ministry from a Jewish boy and culture's perspective. Engaging, deep, thought provoking and emotional without being cumbersome to read.

Meet expectation

Loved reading the kindle version of this book. Had a few misspellings but maybe that was in the original? Didn’t distract from the story in any way.

I read *The Bronze Bow* aloud to my son and was genuinely impressed by how much depth Elizabeth George Speare packed into a relatively short novel. This is not a fluffy historical story. It wrestles with anger, vengeance, forgiveness, courage, faith, and what true freedom actually means.The setting in first-century Judea feels vivid and believable, and the characters are memorable without ever feeling modernized or preachy. Daniel's struggle to reconcile his hatred of Rome with the message of Christ is handled with remarkable maturity, making this an excellent book for older children and young teens who are ready for more complex moral questions.As a homeschooling mother who values living books, I appreciated both the literary quality and the historical richness. The story opened up many worthwhile conversations about virtue, justice, mercy, and the world into which Christ was born.This is one of those Newbery winners that truly deserves its reputation. Beautifully written, thought-provoking, and ultimately hopeful. Highly recommended for family read-alouds and homeschool literature studies.

This was an exciting and moving book that I read with my son. Very emotional and very thoughtful on many different levels. Not sure if my 12 year old son could understand at all the levels but it certainly had an impact.
