Sumptuous Reprint of a Classic
Peter Beard's book, when first published in 1965 was a seminal publication highlighting the atrocities wildlife destruction in Africa. With more than half a century hindsight, the work is more prescient than ever. There have been several editions, each selling out quickly and commanding a premium price on the used book market. Therefore, a reprint, bringing a landmark work to a new generation, is much welcome. Taschen has not given us just a reprint, though, with its large size, high quality paper, and updated contents, they have produced the best edition so far, a fitting posthumous tribute to an important artist.

Mr. Beard....
He was a character and you get go on his ride. Super photographer with unreal energy. His life seems unreal, and this book reveals some of those moments.

the subjects were amazing. the quality of the prints however left a little to be desired. the printing seemed to have lost much detail..

Beautiful images and great historical account.
Although the author comes across as anti-hunting, the images in this book are some of the finest, most historical I have had the pleasure to view. The price was a steal as well.

Interestingly beautiful!
If this is what you are looking for then this book is worth your money and time. Excellent photographs, beautifully designed. A lot of the iconic Peter Beard's photographs are represented in the book. Only I would say that some of the photographs that had to be shown in large format are cropped to be smaller on some of the pages and some photographs that are shown in very large scale like on both pages of the book are a little bit ruined by the line in the middle of the book so that the line goes right through the middle of the photograph. But, anyway, excellent book!
