This feeder works perfectly with a small mouth mason jar, I used a quart size and it saves on buying the plastic container, as I have a million canning jars already, plus they clean better. It's good sturdy plastic so should last a good long time.

bought this almost three years ago to feed a dozen new chicks. over time since then it's fed about 50 more. no problems. does a pretty good job of keeping the chicks from pooping into their food (but not perfect, i think chicks are genetically programmed to poop into their food and will figure out a way no matter what).my dog got ahold of this a few weeks ago and tried using it as a chew toy and did almost no damage. he's not a super-strong chewer of course, but it held up really well. i wouldn't let your really fierce chew dog get at it though.

Stand alone or with a bottle. It works for me.

This is a great feeder, however, we have 5 chicks and need to refill this feeder 2-3 times a day. If you have the space, you would be better off buying 2 or 3 of these.

The package came with only the TOP of the feeder, there was no BOTTOM half included and the to half doesn’t work without the bottom. I’m not impressed.

One need to be certain that the top and bottom parts are well connected so that rowdy chicks do not tip the feeder. The plastic version of this type of dish feeder is so much better than the old galvanized feeders as they do not rust out and can be used for years. Much easier to clean than the old metal dish feeders as well. I have found little giant to be a reliable manufacturer of animal products.

Chicks can easily eat out of the holes and are unable to put their foot in there and throw food, works great!
