MacKiev World Book Encyclopedia 2012 - Windows And Mac

Exciting way to explore the world and history!

I've always used World Book encyclopedias to do most of my research... It has every article from history up to 2011 so if you want to know current events past that you will need to look online... I would recommend this over Encyclopedia Britannica for the fact that it has more articles and is a lot more interactive...

I had an earlier edition (4 disc set) which was more comprehensive. Mainly, I wanted an updated version of the interactive world atlas... this one was poor in comparison to my previous one. It appears that World Book does not a CD version comparable to my previous version.

I would recommand it to anyone. I can't use it cause I don't have dvd on my system it's a cd rom. If this product was a cd rom disc than I could have used it. Tried to download it manually and still couldn't get it. I love world book items cause you learn alot about world events and countries.

The internet is full of all kinds of information that takes a lot of time to research (also full of distractions that can be very negative). When we're dealing with elementary school age children, we need a reliable quick source for basic and some detailed information. World Book is our choice and we've been very happy with the information in the 2012 DVD. We still need to access the information for most detailed information. However, when it comes to the children and the need for them to do research of science and history, World Book is all they have needed.That's not to say there you cannot find detailed information. It's only some subjects that are general. For example, when needing details of various countries' claims on Antarctica, the information was more than enough (included a 3D animation and detailed map). However, when getting information on the phylum of freshwater aquatic plants (they are not seaweed/algae biologically), we needed to get the answers at Wikipedia.World Book pays researchers to do their job. They are professionals in their fields. I find that very helpful.Although 2012 says it can be used on Mac 10.5 and up, I was able to get it to work fine on Mac 10.4. The software interface takes a little learning (print out and go through the manual to get the most of it). I wish their search feature was more customizable. Our daughter enjoys the highlighting features built in.

I had high expectations for this but it has fallen flat. Seems like everything we search isn't on there and it's not very in-depth. I wouldn't buy again.
