thought provoking
With 40 years in Karate to include the SKA and ISKF I find all of Yokota's books to be thought provoking and helpful in my continued practice. This book helps one to develop a deeper understanding of the art.

A must for all karatekas
Just finished reading the book by Shihan Yokota Kousaku, ‘’KARATEDO PARADIGM SHIFT The Path to Rediscovering Budo Karate’’. Again, the writer goes deep into the art of Karate and analyses various concepts kept well-hidden till now like ‘The Relationship between Choku Zuki & the Elbow Position’. I have enriched my karate knowledge tremendously and I have a better understanding on many matters. I have been surprised, as well, by some of the chapters of the book like chapter 3 ‘What Does ‘’There Is No Gyaku Zuki in Karate’’ Mean?’ and chapter 5 ‘Speed Is Unnecessary in Budo Karate’! Furthermore, the writer doesn’t just examine the practical aspects of karate but in addition he ventures into the mental, spiritual and psychological side of the art and of budo karate. Lastly, the writer has the very good and useful habit, in all of his books that I read till now, of adding a conclusion to most of his chapters summarizing everything, making it easier for the reader to retain and comprehend the main ideas of each chapter. A real value and a treasure, in the real sense of the word, for all serious karate practitioners and for everyone interested in the martial arts in general. I have already ordered the book ‘Karatedo Quantum Leap: Advancing Your Karate Understanding to the Next Level’ by the same author and really, I cannot wait till it arrives. Once again, our gratitude to Shihan Yokota Kousaku. Oss.

An essential addition to every serious traditional Karate-ka's library.
Too often, books about karate are simply repackaged and reworked versions of every other karate book out there. As one who has read and researched a lot, I can't tell you how many books begin with or include "The History of Karate" (as if their version were the comprehensive version).Yokota Sensei has the privilege and responsibility of teaching karate that is not bound in dogma and usless repetition "just because that's how it's done". Karate, from its genisis and by its very nature, must evolve while remaining true to its origins of Budo.

My copy arrived on time and was exactly as described, in mint condition. I have only had the chance to flick through this work quickly as I have family staying with us on holiday. I am itching to get stuck in to this book and from what I have seen, I know I will really enjoy it. This is a book that all martial arts practitioners and not just Karate-ka should read to better understand how Karate has developed in the last 100 years.
