To raise a happy and intelligent kid, it is a must read
"Seven years ago, feeling overwhelmed by early parenthood, I stumbled upon 'Brain Rules for Baby' – a book that truly transformed how I raised my daughter."Now my daughter is going to be 11 years in May, 2025, I want to express my gratitude to the author of the book to write such a wonderful book. Had I not read this book, I would not have been able to raise such a wonderful kid.Being a logical person, I appreciated the science-based approach of 'Brain Rules for Baby.' It wasn't just abstract advice; it provided the 'why' behind each recommendation, making it easy for me to embrace and implement."I followed “Brain Rules for Baby” as Gita or bible, and the results are amazing. What I achieved.1. Became safety net for my kid.2. Led by example- As this book say that kids hate to do what you say and love to do what you do.3. Maximum face time and No screen time4. Physical activity as much as possible5. No video game , mobile, or mobile game till now.6. Significantly less TV time for her and for us as well.7. Understanding her emotions8. Focused on nurturing a happy child9. Focused on instilling strong morals10. Always prioritized sufficient sleep, understanding its crucial role for her ageFor any reader feeling lost or wanting to be more intentional in their parenting journey, I wholeheartedly recommend 'Brain Rules for Baby.' Concise and informative book on baby brain development
I read this book during my pregnancy and now with an 8 month old, I keep going back to it. I purchased many other brain development but have liked this one the best because of the concise and informative way in which Medina has written it. He has collated research from many sources (Ellen Galinsky's Mind in the Making being one) into a brief and to the point book. My favorite part of the book is the last 200 pages or so where he lists out the practical do's and don't's from all the chapters. You can reference the chapters for the reasoning behind his practical tips but it's all in one place.

Best book for understanding the "what" and "why" part
I bought this book as Balaji Vishwanathan suggested it in Quora. An excellent book to read. It clearly explains the "what" and "why" questions of parenting : What aspects make a baby smart, what makes up for a happy baby, why will babies not listen to parents etc. The author is a Neuro Scientist, so you will see lots of referencing to brain parts through out the book. (He even added a page with picture of brain and explaining names of various lobes :) ) The best part of the book is he gives references to various researches for every single point he mentions. He doesn't simply say "Talk with your child and observe non-verbal cues", he tells what researches have done in this regard and what are the findings. He gets so moved to explain things rather than dictating us that when he need to say "Observe the emotions of the baby", he goes on explaining what is definition of emotion, what is observing means and so on.Pros :(1) Perfect facts based on authentic Psychological research, not some statements that are shoved on to you.(2) Very good organization of contents with examples to easily understand.Cons:(1) Concentrates only on "what" part. "How" part, e.g, 'How to talk to your baby" "How to punish effectively" etc, i.e, the practicals part of it is not covered. You may need so other book on that which covers practical examples.(2) Some portions, where he explains "brain functioning" "Genetics" etc, too much of scientific terms and facts which you may feel boring as obviously, you won't need much details.

Simply amazing
If you need just one book to tell you the most important thing about parenting then this is it. A few simple but profound principles are given which will lay an extremely solid foundation for a kids personality. With so many schools of thought on parenting, what to do and what not to do, this book goes way beyond superficial activities. Some parts of it would require patience and re reading but it is totally worth it, given the take home message. It will ensure a healthy nervous system and autonomic regulation which will give a child his/her best shot at a good fulfilling life.
