The PREFACE alone is worth the cost of the book.
I ordered this book to add to my Natural Health library for pets.As a regular reader of "Preface" and "About Author" pages, I started reading them in Dr. Shelton's book. An interesting evolution from conventional veterinarian to the Oily Vet. But what is most valuable to man and beast is what happened to her baby, herself, her family and then the pets she treats. It is the eye-opener which makes this book the gem it is.Goodness, if only people will learn and understand the evil poison corn syrup and all its various forms is and what major damage they do to the human and animal body. Between these manipulated sugars, also artificial sweeteners, our systems do not know how to process them and thus the many allergies, skin problems, cancers and all the other diseases which have been plaguing people and pets since about the 1970s when corn syrup was introduced and placed into almost everything, in ever increasing numbers. Why do we have to have corn syrup in dog food? Just read the labels. It is insane. If we want to stay and get healthy, we must take responsibility for our own and our dependents' well being. Books like Dr. Shelton's book are great additions to such education.I very much like the inclusion of not only therapeutic essential oils, but also the nutritional supplements that can and should be added to pets' regular nutritional regiments. The section on arthritis in dogs (pg. 65-70)is excellent and probably will add many happy years to many a pet, even if they currently suffer. Good information for horses, birds, and other pets. There is a great section on the issue of cat litter - more information worth the book.I do not know Dr. Shelton, but if her office were within a 100 mile radius, I'd be heading her way for my pets' maintenance. The one thing I find missing and urgently suggest to be included in future editions is an INDEX.When in a hurry, an index makes life so much easier.

Very helpful
This is a great beginner book for using essential oils with your animals. I was hoping to have more information, like, for this.... do that.... But it still provides sufficient information to safely use the oils, especially for our feline friends. I'm a big fan of a competitor's essential oils so don't have access to the blends that are discussed - not really a big deal, though.

Essential Oils for Pets
I have a Golden Retriever that has been plagued with bacterial ear infections. He actually ruptured a blood vessel in one ear flap and had to have surgery twice. He had been on multiple courses of anti-bacterial drugs and prescribed medications. We just don't seem to be able to beat it even though he is also now on grain free food. I recently became interested in essential oils, specifically Young Living Essential Oils, and started researching if they could be used on pets. I came across Dr. Shelton's book and found what I was looking for.I haven't gotten all of the oils I need yet, but I started with Thieves mixed with V6. My dog has shown no adverse reactions to it and he calms down a lot sooner than he used to after I clean his ears with it. Used to be that he would shake his head so much that I felt like I made him worse instead of better. Now he comes willingly when he sees me pick up the bottles and rests peacefully when I am done.I am anxious to see if this will beat the infection. So far, I think I am gaining ground but time will tell.

Simple
This book is great if you are new to essential oils and just want some basic ideas. I expected a lot more information but I'd also just spent a few months researching specific remedies on line as well as reading the EO Desk Reference. I expected deeper insights and uses for a myriad of issues and diseases but there were very few "formulas" for very few ailments and only basic common things. Dr. seems like a wonderful person with lots of knowledge. Her advice and wisdom was good. I just expected more technical information, details, maybe stories from experience and lots and lots of different uses. Nice book, just not at all what I was hoping for.

Great resource
I really like this book. It is a great resource. It has a lot of remedies for a lot of different animals which is great. I wish there were a few more on dogs but I'm biased. That said, the remedies for dogs are excellent. I've used just about all of them. I would highly recommend this book.

My first tast of holistic care for pets
I work with a no-kill cat rescue organization and we are constantly dealing with sick cats. I really needed the entire book to be about cats only but the chapter devoted to it was extremely helpful. The dog chapter was wonderful and much needed for my own pets, but the entire book was fascinating whether I had a horse or a bird or a cow or a turtle! It was great information that the holistic community is craving!

Very Good Reference Book!!!
I am well pleased with this book.It has helped me having the hard copy on hand to refer to when I have had to.It also has pictures that show exactly how the vet treats the diff.pets she has included for us.I'm glad I got it and would recommend it to everybody. It explains a lot about Young Living Oil treatments for our ailing furry friends as well as the health benefits of diffusing these oils.
