A departure and letdown from his previous book
As a fan of Marc Lagrange's previous book, Diamonds and Pearls, I couldn't wait for this book!It seemed to be on a much higher budget and showcased different themed shoots. And there are some absolutely incredible photos in here. If you've seen Marc's work before, you know of the quality to expect. The book starts off with a great double-page photo in full color, no borders, and I knew this was going to be a great book! The following pages lost a lot of that magic and seemed very "posed for the camera" followed by some faceless nudes. The book jumps around quite a bit, going back and forth to a few photos that seem to be from the same set (it would have been nice to have seen them collected in a section instead of scattered). Within the first 50-60 pages, I would say only 10 or so are "fantastic images" and they stand out much more among the rest, which I feel hurts the rest of the book. The book also jumps from amazingly sharp and detailed photos to blurry and grainy ones without notice. Some photos take up a full 2-pages, some are single page, and some are shrunken down so small that maybe 20% of the page is being used. For such a large book, I would love to see the full space being used whenever possible.I felt the choice in models was also very different, going from "supermodel status" to what seemed to be "normal people"; it was also strange to add a handful of nude men into the book of 98% women (I don't recall his previous books having men either)My final issue was in the way that the book was formatted. Many of the 2-page spreads are cut very poorly (see the image attached of the woman with the white fabric, where the seam of the book is centered along her body/face and obstructs it), other ones are formatted much better. Beyond this, going back to the 'white borders', some pages are left intentionally blank which is odd as it's not for every photo. You'll go page-to-page of non-stop photos and then hit a blank page with a photo on the opposite side. I feel if doing this, it's best to go one way or the other (all or nothing). It's such a weird feeling going through the book. I see so many photos that I absolutely LOVE in here, followed by 3-4 pages of what seem to be very mediocre (in contrast) photos. In the end, I think these lower-quality photos and some artistic choices bring the book down a bit compared to if it were half the size but twice the quality.

Vai Amazon Prime, I just got this book today and love it! The shoot themes are exotic and dreamy with beautiful models of all shades of the spectrum. The images are large and grand and as a photog myself, I'll really enjoyed the lighting on most, although with some of the black female models the lighting was a little to dark and low for my taste. but the book for me was worth the cheddar, I'll own it proudly as a part of my library.

Precognition
A great work. Even through its cover and the work in Carrara, Lagrange transmits the precognition of the tragic event of last Christmas. The epiphany of an Artist.

I wasn't prepared for the breathtaking beauty of these images.
This book astounded me. I wasn't prepared for the breathtaking beauty of Lagrange's glorious yet understated larger set-pieces. The images in this lovely book reproduce his amazing skill with colour and grain. Even his modern digital photographs have every appearance of luxurious film work. The images in this work range from portraits to elaborate staged sets with multiple models, all gorgeous of course. The book is a big one so the images can be viewed large and the detail properly admired. This is a book I would consider strongly to gift to good friends. It's a real shame that Lagrange died so young as he clearly had a fabulous career ahead of him.
