A capable Smart Camera, but it really requires the monthly Haven subscription to be useful
I’ve got to say I really like the SmartCamera. The video is clear, the night vision works well, and the 180° field of view is really nice. The virtual pan it does while following someone’s motion makes it seem like the camera is really physically tracking them (when “Person Detection” is enabled). The camera integration with Haven (for storing and showing recorded video) is really good. I’ve had no issues with it at all. Upload seems to be happening just fine (I have good WiFi coverage and a fast pipe into/out of the house). Playback is quick with no hiccups. With Haven I can get a notification on my phone when it detects motion, as well as look at past saved clips (2 minutes lone) in the history view. A nice thing is that the thumbnail image in the history view is from the point of detected motion/person, even though the saved video starts about 5 seconds before that. However, sometimes I see that the thumbnail is about half a second too soon – I have a bunch that just show a person’s arm (as they were walking into view), whereas half a second later the whole person would be in the frame. A downside is that the Camera seems completely useless without the monthly Haven subscription. I used it that way for a week before I activated the Haven 1 month trial. There seemed to be nothing I could do outside of looking at the camera live. It might have been nice for there to be at least the most recent detected activity available if Haven wasn’t in use. I plan to let the Haven subscription expire after the free month to again compare the available features without it. For instance, I’m pretty sure the ‘Activity’ tab on the app only appeared after I enabled Haven. I was also very surprised the ecobee.com account portal (non-app) doesn’t include the camera at all. That means the only way to view the camera it is with the phone app. The built-in Alexa is fine, but we really don't use it. The camera is in the front hall, and it sometimes picked up us talking to the Echo in our kitchen, so we ended up muting it's Alexa to avoid that . 2 minor negatives: (1) the camera gets pretty warm. It pulls about 3.5W continuously while monitoring (during the day; I don't have the measurement from night vision mode). (2) it makes a loud click when turning on and off the night vision infrared lights. Turning on the lights near the camera makes it turn off the IR LEDs and make the noise. Depending upon where the camera is located, this noise could be annoying. I also had a minor issue setting up the camera. When my phone would switch to the temporary WiFi ssid the camera created, it would detect no Internet access and switch to phone data, causing the setup to timeout. Simply make sure your phone doesn't do that (turn on airplane mode, then re-enable WiFi, and then setup the camera).

Perfect Indoor Security Camera—Essential for Peace of Mind on Vacation and Everyday Use!
I bought the Ecobee indoor smart camera along with the Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera before leaving on vacation, and it’s been a fantastic addition to my home security setup. This camera allowed me to monitor multiple entry points in real-time while we were away, giving us total peace of mind. Reliable Monitoring for Every Entry Point: Setting up the camera was quick and straightforward, and I positioned it to cover a key entry point in the house. During our trip, the camera’s live feed and instant alerts let me check in anytime, providing an extra layer of security beyond just the doorbell camera. The clarity of the video feed was excellent, both day and night, and I could rely on it to see exactly what was happening at home. Great for Future Use: Now that we’re back, the camera is still proving invaluable. It seamlessly integrates with the Ecobee ecosystem, meaning I get alerts directly on my thermostat and other devices. I can also use it to check on our home in real-time, which is perfect for keeping an eye on things when I’m out. The fact that it doubles as a chime for the doorbell camera is an added bonus, making sure we’re alerted to any movement at the front door as well. Overall: Whether you’re going on vacation or just want to keep your home secure day-to-day, this Ecobee indoor smart camera is an outstanding investment. It’s reliable, easy to use, and gives you peace of mind, both when you’re home and away. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enhance their home security!

Limited compatibility but well done
Overall the camera provide a clear view that will meet the needs of most homeowners. Although this is an indoor camera, there is the window view option that allows you to place the camera in a window to capture the world outside. The night vision was pretty solid compared to other we have tested. The camera uses 3 high-powered infrared LEDs with mechanical ICR filter. It was able to spot our all black cat and zoom surprisingly close for nightvision. We found the camera to be very reliable even when we were away. The smart detection features were extremely accurate. The setup was relatively easy however we did have some challenges and things we felt could be improved upon with future updates. I think this is a solid start to the expanding ecobee ecco system. This will be a great option for people who already have a ecobee thermostat and want a very simple and easy to use home monitoring system. The biggest drawback I think for most people will be the monthly subscription. In order to access any of the video capturing features you will need to subscribe to their home monitoring program. Ecobee is at the beginning phases of rolling out their home monitoring product line. With that being said the product line is limited to the indoor camera, a few sensors and the thermostat. I think for most people adding an additional monthly fee for such a limited product line might be hard for people to justify the expense. One of the uniquire features of this camera is also one of the things I found least usefull and that was the Amazon smart assistant integration. You are far better off using a echo dot for voice commands. Where the feature is usefull is on the two way commincation where it acts as a baby monitor. Now for the setup process. We ran into a lot of hiccups here. Although the process is pretty straightforward we had a hard time connecting to the ecobee servers. In addition one thing I think could be solved for with a future update in the wifi network search. Unlike most smart devices where you will see a list of local networks, currently it is manual and you have to physically input your SSID. The setup also requires you to input your personal phone number which I think might be an issue for some people. With such a bold product statement as: “The indoor security camera that gives you more insight into your home.” I would have liked to see more features packed into the camera that actually give insight into your home like temperature, air quality ext.More advance home autiomation enthisists may find the camera limiting especially if you already have a home monitoring system, adding this camera at this time doesn’t seem like it would be worth the $180 price tag.

Back to Google Nest
Been trying to get onto the Home Kit Secure Video journey for quite some time now. This use to work well with Eufy cameras until they had their whole security debacle -- hence the switch to a camera that does not require the native manufacturer app. Overall this is a nice camera, tons of features, good build quality. Software is where it dies. 1. No manual firmware update option (have to wait until ecobee pushes it?) 2. Integrates with HomeKit, but expect it to fail when you most need it (grayed out live view and/or non-responsive via HomeKit) 3. No option to remote restart camera If you're on some sort of trip, don't expect any reliability. The camera stopped working 6 hours into my trip, with both ecobee app and homekit showing a gray footage. No option to remotely restart it of course. Returned and back to Google Nest, while it's no HKSV -- at least it works.

Great cameras
I have been using this camera for a while now and it’s been great. Unfortunately I had it sitting on top of a piece of furniture and I accidentally knocked it over. It only fell about a foot but it landed on my hard tile floor just right and the whole front which is glass cracked badly. So I went back on Amazon to purchase a replacement and saw it was on sale so I bought two. I always wanted one in my garage so now I do. Very easy to set up. Great picture quality and the speaker is damn good for as small as it is. I love that when I added these cameras they were automatically added to my Alexa Echo spot. I only complaint is at this date in time ecobee does not make an outdoor camera. I also own the ecobee thermostat and the ecobee doorbell camera, love everything ecobee so far. I also like that you do not need to load a micro sd card into the camera. One note if you want to use more than one camera you will have to pay a yearly subscription of $90 That will allow you to add as many cameras as you like. With that yearly subscription you will also be able to have ecobee monitor your home as a security system. I have ordered the ecobee window and door sensors and they will be installed tomorrow. So I feel $90 year for a home security system is pretty inexpensive. Well worth the money in my opinion.

HomeKit review - amazed
Best-looking and feeling HomeKit camera I've tried! Setup was a breeze—no need for the ecobee app, I went straight to HomeKit. It connected to the network in under a minute and was ready to go. Some folks have grumbled about the video quality. Sure, it’s 1080p, not 4K, but honestly, 4K isn’t a must-have for me (or probably anyone). Others have complained about network issues—you need a good router to support streaming video, and a wired HomeKit hub (wired Apple TV) to ensure smooth video over the secure protocol. I can't speak for Google Home or Alexa, but I bet they require less because they prioritize convenience over security. The camera might be a tad slower than some competitors, but I'm hopeful for updates to the hardware soon. I'm planning to phase out all my “Eufy” and “Aqara” cameras in favor of the ecobee camera—not only to reduce the risk of overseas surveillance but also because this camera just works. Updated January 2026: I bought a SECOND unit because this one has been so solid, and everything has been working flawlessly. I have indeed removed the Chinese cameras from my rotation.

Ecobee sells great products
For starters, the product that initially received had issues connecting to the app. Ease of set up proved to be complicated and frustrating. I ended up talking to ecobee support (who is always amazing) for about 2 1/2 hours to try to remedy the matter. To no avail I ended up having to get a whole new product through ecobee support. When the product arrived, it worked great & connected to the app properly. For the product could be a little more affordable. Very similar to Apple. This is a product that could easy well be wireless for the weight and size that it has. It would be good if the camera could rotate left and right and that would make it a perfect baby Kim . Zoom quality and night vision quality is pretty awesome. We use it Rilee to keep an eye on our dog in the living room and tracks motion and sinking with our ecobee security system is seamless. Overall, great product by the price, there could be more from ecobee.

Great motion detection, clear image, and seamless integration with Alexa and my smart watch
Initial thoughts: The ecobee SmartCamera with voice control was extremely easy to set up. Within minutes of opening the box, I was on the app and able to securely monitor my home remotely. The camera is heavy and well-made and the magnetic mount options are versatile and easy to use. The camera has an excellent field of vision and is easy to control through the app. It is so great to be able to keep an eye on my child in his nursery using the ecobee SmartCamera with voice control and to monitor my home. After using for one week: I still love the Ecobee SmartCamera with voice control and I have really enjoyed using this to monitor my home. The image is very clear and bright. It is easy to see details during daylight or in incandescent lighting. The nighttime vision is excellent and clear. The tracking feature is very appealing. The internal camera moves to follow an object, but the outside of the camera stays in the same location. This helps keep the camera more incognito. My absolute favorite feature is the ability to detect a person. The Ecobee app will alert me right away if there is a person in the field of the camera. As someone who has pets, this is an amazing feature. I love that I know instantly what is triggering the motion alert. Through the ecobee app, I get a notification on my phone when the camera is armed. I also have the ecobee app on my watch, so I receive a notification there as well. When linked to Alexa, I can receive an Alexa notification when there is motion on my camera. It is great to get instant notifications as soon as motion is detected. The monthly subscription unlocks additional services, such as the ability to save videos and to capture photo snapshots of images on the camera. I have really enjoyed using the Ecobee SmartCamera with voice control to monitor my home and keep my family safe.

Works beautifully with Apple Home!
I’m really happy with this camera so far. The setup through Apple Home was smooth, and it integrates perfectly with my other HomeKit devices. I can easily check the live feed directly from the Home app or even ask Siri to show me the camera. The video quality is crisp, with a wide 180° field of view that captures the entire room. The night vision is clear, and I love the two-way audio — it’s great for checking in at home when I’m away. The motion and person detection work accurately, and the notifications arrive almost instantly. I also appreciate that Ecobee takes privacy seriously, allowing local video encryption and automatic pausing when family members are detected. The only small downside is that it requires a steady Wi-Fi connection; if your signal is weak, it can occasionally disconnect. Other than that, it’s been very reliable. Overall, this is a great choice for Apple Home users who want a camera that’s simple to use, secure, and smartly designed.

Great camera.
Great camera. Have the doorbell and got this one to watch the new puppy. Able to set off alarm or talk when needed. Can zoom in and out with ease. Would purchase more for different rooms if I could get my husband onboard.

Doesn't work well
Save yourself the headache and use a different brand. Constant connectivity issues on these while my doorbell camera on the same network works fine. Support isn't much help either since it's an issue with product. When they do work the video is fine but the detection is really bad you have to crop out have the view so it stops detecting (people)

An excellent homekit camera, picture quality could use some improvement
Pros - Easy to set up via the Ecobee app or the Apple Home app - Voice quality is clear and the microphone works well - No longer mandatory to use Ecobee's subscription service, fully compatible with apple's HomeKit secure video platform as of December - Connectivity to my Eero wifi network is solid Cons - Picture quality is not as good as my Logi Circle 2, even though both are 1080p, this camera produces videos with higher amount of noise and less detail - Performance in low-light environment is mediocre at best

Good camera
The Ecobee camera is an excellent addition to the Ecobee ecosystem. Installation is simple, and the image quality is excellent. While there have been some negative reviews, I have not experienced any of the reported connection issues. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality and smooth security camera.
