Q: How is the music player on the app? Is it well developed eg. Sorts by artist/albums/songs automatically from folders or does it seem like afterthought

It was a gift for my daughter and she is very impressed. It was simple and everything transferred correctly, she especially liked the fact that it recognizes and transfers only the new things rather than duplicating as she has previously experienced.

Q: Amazon prime video allows us to download to ios devices. is it possible to download (or move the downloaded fle) to the ixpand drive?

No. This would absolutely not be possible.

Q: Is it possible to format it for mac use so I can put larger files on it.

It's exfat so large files that read/write on Mac / PC are no issue. You can reformat if you wish.

Q: Does the sandisk ixpand work with ios10 and ipad air 2

iOS 10 ... yes it does work perfectly fine with iOS 10 IPad Air 2 ... not tried yet
