Good book, really helped me with my assessments. Very interesting, I'm happy I have this book in my collection.

Bought this for a reading group. Its an excellent quality book with lots of notes for a beginner to Gramsci like myself. This makes it much easier to understand the harder concepts.In addition to the concepts the book came within the expected timescales set out by the seller.

What can one say? The masterful thoughts on socialism set down against insuperable odds of a true martyr for his socialist beliefs. Gramsci's work is tough to get to grips with, in part for its obscure terminology which, as the introduction explains, was due to the need to mask the underlying marxist philosophy from fascist censorship; and because this is not a logically worked-out system but rather a philosophy emerging from a series of commentaries on various specific issues. For those unfamiliar with Italian history - especially the intricacies of politics post-Risorgimento - there is a steep learning-curve in order to understand how Gramsci concretizes his abstract thought by reference to Italian history. But the rewards are well worth the effort. The edition provides a broad conspectus and is well edited and annotated to enable the reader to negotiate his/her way through the intricacies referred to above. The work of a seminal thinker in Twentieth-Century Marxist thought and a much-needed corrective to the superficialities of neo-liberalism which has dominated politics for the last forty years, with what dire effects we can see in the economic collapse and social division of the last five years.

I used this book to gain insight of the world from a Marxist perspective, I may or may not agree with all that was written. However, I can certainly now join the debate from a more informed perspective.

I needed the book in order to write my thesis.Even though these theories are not new, they are still applicable on many aspects of the society of today.
