Insights into 1911 Census and suffragettes
Seems to be an excellent review to background of their non co-operation but uses 1911 census info to review likely impact which is fascinating as are the stories of women disappearing! 400 pages. Inspired me to check locally -2 found so far! It seems impact was less than supposed.

This is a very interesting book and for folk who did not know why and what the Suffragettes had to put with it is well worth reading, the only draw back is the start of the book is a bit boring and probably could have been put in as an annex. Jill Liddington has certainly done an excellent job with her research.

A book not just got historians .
Brilliant . I couldn't put it down . Made more interesting because my grandmother was in the movement for women's votes .

an informative interesting read
Purchased for my mum, who, since retiring has been very intersted in our family free and local history, she informs me that this book is very informative, interesting and a good read. Cheapest on amazon, as usual.

Surprised that a large publisher doesn't use proof readers/copy editors. Full of typos and other errors! A disappointing book on a fascinating topic. Thin on detail.

An excellent book!
This book is very good for anyone with more than a passing interest in suffrage history, and is especially readable.

I enjoyed reading this book tremendously
I enjoyed reading this book tremendously. The author has drawn together disparate information, from letters, diaries, photographs, official documents and contemporary records, into a compelling account of a neglected story in suffrage history. The debate about boycotting the 1911 census has resonance for today and the tour of English sites of 'vanishing' produced is a readable and informative journey. I learned much more about the suffrage movement than I had been aware of, about the organisation and particular history of the 1911 census but also was intrigued to read how the author, with a colleague, searched for individual women, and some men, who were part of this particular event in English radical history.
