Worth it?
I have used Norelco shavers for almost 50 years. I always bought the average models. Not the worst and not the best. About a year ago I bought a look alike Chinese rip-off design. It delivered an inferior but adequate shave for a year and then died. This time I decided to buy the real thing. I looked at the line and decided not to be a cheapskate this time. I started at the top of the line rather than the bottom. $280 for a shaver? What? What! All the pictures showed the shaver from an angle accentuating its sleek slimness. I always felt the hand contour of the shaver to be one of its best features. I hesitated. Eventually I clicked the button. Maybe its time to try the best. After the shaver arrived I discovered that the contour handle was actually improved. After an hours charge, I attacked the three day growth of beard left after the failure of the poor imitation I had been using. After one second a knew that all the shavers I had ever owned were cripples. I experienced the best shave I have ever had. Close, comfortable, convenient, able to reach all the nooks and contours effortlessly. Everything could be made to fit nicely in the compact case with a little trial and error. I knew it was a keeper but still, $280? Then I read the manual and discovered the travel lock, the intensity setting, the battery minder, and all the monitoring and safety features that had been thoughtfully provided. This is the best engineered and designed product I have purchased in a long time.So I finally get it. I paid all that money for the best shaving experience available and 50 years of design development and engineering expertise. Looking at it that way makes it feel more worthwhile. I am going to enjoy this product almost every day for a long time to come. I am going to forget the price after the next billing cycle. I am finally at peace with my shaver.

Buy a Braun Series 9!
I had been using a Norelco rotary electric razor for over 25 years. I have very sensitive skin but try to get as close a shave as possible. My last razor was the 1290X SensoTouch3D. I was pretty pleased with it and was in a quandary when it finally died. Since I had always used Norelco razors I didn’t even consider other brands. After some research I chose the S9000 Prestige hoping to achieve the ultimate closeness and comfort as advertised. Unfortunately, I have to report that I achieved neither. My SensoTouch3D was a far superior razor. With the S9000 Prestige, I have to shave the same areas multiple times to get the level of closeness that I desire which leaves my skin irritated. I’m also not crazy about the design. The head not only pops off for cleaning, it can pop off when shaving as well if you are not careful. The final straw was when I shaved off my mustache. I had a mustache for 45 years and had never shaved that area with an electric razor. I found it very difficult to shave above my lip with the Norelco rotary razor, especially around the nose. After further research I decided to buy a foil razor. I chose the Braun Series 9. What a difference. This is a far superior razor than the Norelco S9000 Prestige. I’m able to shave faster while getting a smoother and more comfortable shave. It also comes with a cleaning station and cost $100 less (on sale). If you are thinking of buying a Norelco S9000 Prestige, I would seriously consider the Braun Series 9 instead.

Toro/Norelco S9000 Prestige
I am a former Norelco user. I shaved with this brand for 20 + years, but got tired of replacing batteries every 2 years (old tech nickel cad batteries). I have used Braun for the past 10 years with good results and never had to replace a battery. 9 months ago I got a Braun Series 9. Not thrilled, so I decided to try the Norelco S9000 Prestige. The Braun provided a good (not great) shave, but more irritation than the Series 7. I was excited to go back to a rotary shaver and a Norelco. The S9000 arrived and immediately I was impressed with the workmanship, feel, and apparent quality. Great little machine. Very quiet and smooth. Just one problem. On my face it is simply a lousy shaver. No matter how many circular movements, no matter how many times I went over the same area, no matter how long it just didn't cut closely or comfortably. I could get a very fast shave, but not close. If I tried to get close I just ended up with a face that felt as if it had been dragged across the sidewalk. Gel, pre-shave, dry, no matter. The final day I shaved with it I took 2 minutes on my face and neck, then spent three full minutes just on my upper lip. Never mind that if not careful it would grab the leading edge of my lip, but in 3 full minutes of shaving that small area I still could not get close. I looked after shaving that I had the classic 5 o'clock shadow.I know you're supposed to try for 21 days, but there is no way I would have made it that far. Each day I felt worse than the day before. As a comparison I purchased a Panasonic Arc5 and it was sooooooo much nicer and closer on the very first shave. Shaving my upper lip dry with the Arc5 was far more comfortable and closer that the Norelco with shaving gel. I honestly believe that a more inexpensive Norelco shaver with the old lift-and-cut cutters would be a better shaver. The trimmer worked well, but changing heads didn't feel great and I wonder about the durability. As far as value, $280 for a shaver that doesn't even come with a cleaning/charging station or even a charging stand is absurd. Needless markup and very dissapointing. I really wanted to like this shaver. I am returning it tomorrow.

Great shave quality, excellent battery life
Very smooth shave as long as you follow the instructions and use small circular motions. For someone used to single direction (downwards) shaving using a regular razor, the difference is really noticeable Because the circular blades cut in all directions. The first two/three weeks were rough ... lots of inflammation. But stick with it and you'll get through. I tried dry shaving, pre-shave oils, and shaving foam, and finally decided on shaving foam - zero inflammation. Battery life is superb - it will last 2 weeks with week-day shaving and the occasional weekend shave. I would have given it 5 stars if it came with a sideburn shaping solution - I have to resort to a single blade razor to get a sharp sideburn.
