The power of Paperport is easily overlooked!
Paperport looks a bit pointless - one of those gadgets your PC-Mad Uncle would own, but boy has it helped me out!When you first install Paperport the main screen can look a little daunting however in essence it is a souped-up version of your standard Windows explorer so with a little help from the manual you'll get used to it in no time.What does it do then? Well "exactly what it says on the box!"Why is it so useful? - well, for example. I run a small business from the back room of my house whilst also working a day job and trying to run a normal household. After a year of owning Paperport I actually sat down one day and decided to see how I could get it to work for me. It was amazing.Imagine all your bits of paper in one place - those post it notes with telephone numbers stuck on the fridge, all those takeaway menus in the kitchen drawer, receipts for electrical equipment under the coffee table, that photo of the relatives you got in a card at xmas - Paperport can store and retrieve all those little items that you should bin for the sake of a tidy house but will keep "just in case". Not to mention invoices, bank statements, newspaper articles, tax forms etc.You can even highlight, annotate and stick "virtual post-it notes" to documents.Several other features make this program a must for anyone who has a lot of email or computer generated documents. Eg - how many stacks of printed emails have you got? Paperport lets you print straight into the main program and its as easy as selecting print and choosing the Paperport printer. This can also be done from internet explorer or any other program that allows you to print. It is then stored in your Paperport folder and can be printed at any time.Your TV has broken down and youre not sure if its still under guarentee - if you scanned the receipt into Paperport it can use text recognition to find it and display it on screen. Obviously the "shoebox" full of receipts will still need to be kept somewhere - but at least looking for a needle in a haystack is a lot easier when you know exactly what the needle looks like!The question of data safety should also be raised. This is as easy as burning a data cd - drag and drop with your favourite CD Burning program and youre done!All in all short of being on the Scansoft marketing payroll - i cannot reccomend this program enough for anyone running a small business or a busy household!
