Initial Impressions - Positive...beast of a bar
PackagingThe bar comes in a single giant box. The bar weighs 125 lbs and it looks as though there was a little jostling in transit. The noticeable thing was that while the bar ships without the sleeves installed you could see that the insertion point for one of the sleeves had banged against something during travel. I suggest that a packaging improvement would be to think about fitting an extra piece of Styrofoam in that spot.AssemblyAssembly of the bar should be very simple. The sleeves slide in...and with the tightening of a couple of bolts with a tool that is provided along with the bar you should be good to go. However the bar I received did have a hiccup when it comes to assembly and it's possible that it's related to packaging and how the sleeve insertion point banged against something during travel as shown by the hole in the box. One of the sleeves...would not simply slide into position. In fact when I first started looking at the bar I thought this might be an extremely short review because it wouldn't go together. I was able to get the sleeve in but not without significant effort in the form of strenuously and repeatedly banging it into place with a rubber mallet. I would consider that a significant area of concern in terms of either packaging or build quality because I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to need to do that...Build QualityAs I just mentioned there could be an issue the sleeve construction and fit...but it is entirely possible that was due to packaging or some kind of incident during transit of the bar. That aside, I suppose given the cost of the bar that it could be fair to nitpick that the end caps which are used with the bar came a little bit misshaped and not entirely flush. Overall though...my impression of the bar is that it is extremely strong and well made for the kind of uses for which it is intended. I like the grips. I like the knurling on all of the grips. The bar seems to be level and evenly balanced in the way that it's supposed to be.How I use the EquipmentSo far I have used this bar for farmers walk and rack pulls with the inner and outer grips and the thick grips. For farmers walk the thick grips are pretty brutal...definitely more grip work than trap work just because of how hard it is to grip. I had no problem farmers walking with it lengthwise or sideways if you would call it that. I like it better than my regular trap bar for farmers walk because it's roomier and when you're working with the thick grips walking the bar lengthwise you're not going to bash the back of your legs when you set the bar down. For rack pulls it's great. The thing is a big beast and I don't get the impression that you're going to be able to easily bend or break it. I set it up with and without reverse bands and found that it's comfortable to work with. The grips are definitely wider than you're probably going to be used to with a normal trap bar and perhaps unsurprisingly after use in this way I could easily feel it in my traps.Effectiveness of the EquipmentMy long term plans are to work this bar in rotation for a maximum effort exercise...and using it from the floor, multiple grips, bands, chains...it does provide a lot of options in one bar. And good for farmers walk. The price of the bar is a little spendy...but you do get a number of solid lifting and conditioning options in one place. That's also good because the bar is huge and difficult to move around without actually paying attention. That could be something to think about for a potential owner of the bar...you need space for it. But if you do have space and the money for it I think most people who like trap bar movements would probably like it.The dimensions of the bar are such that you can't rack it. But you probably would have no problem working from the pins of your rack. I didn't have any clearance issue with a Legend 3133. With using the beefy spotter bars it makes a very satisfying noise when doing rack pulls.I'm looking forward to continuing to work with it.DisclaimerThis item was provided free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
