An Oreo for the adult palate
I don't remember liking Hydrox as a kid -- it seemed like the poor man's Oreo. I still like Oreos a lot, but I think this cookie is my new favorite. It does have a deeper chocolate flavor than an Oreo, which you really notice after you've been chewing for a few seconds. It doesn't jump right out at you. It's less sweet than an Oreo, though it's still plenty sweet enough with that nice real-sugar flavor. The cream center of this cookie is a big difference from Oreos. This one is like a cake or cupcake icing, with a nice creamy flavor, whereas the Oreo has more texture than flavor, and Oreo filling has a Crisco-like density that I don't care for. Sorry for all the Oreo comparisons, but that's really what most people will have as a reference. This cookie goes absurdy well with fresh milk, and stands up well to dipping. It absorbs milk nicely without getting as soft as quick as an Oreo. From memory, Hydrox is 130 calories per serving, with two cookies being one serving. I think it was 19g carb and 1g protein, which would leave about 5 grams of fat. It's not a health food, despite the elimination of trans-fats and corn syrup, but it's a nice treat after a workout. I don't know how Oreos compare in terms of calories, but these were more filling, and at least part of that is the better taste that gives more satisfaction with fewer cookies. You could actually eat two of these and stop. I didn't.

Still Dreaming About the Hydrox Cookies I ate as a kid.
A bit disappointed. I agree with the others who say, these aren't like the original Hydrox. Just another in a long list of Oreo knock offs. They aren't bad, but they are Hydrox in name only. I would have even given them four or five stars but, like all the Oreo knock offs, some how they feel like they have to put twice as much filling as regular Oreos. But here's a hint to all Oreo knock off manufacturers. No one over the age of ten eats Oreo Double stuff cookies with the exception of people dreaming of moving to Colorado. On the plus side, the ingredients are very clean, and no high fructose corn syrup as in Oreos. BTW, $6 is a lot to pay for 13 ounces of cookies. Make them a pound, and under $5 and your sales will sky rocket. You could bring your cost down by putting 25% less filling.

Close to matching the original, but still some fine tuning needed, and still much better than Oreo
Great to see the original and best tasting sandwich cookie back in action. I'd love to give this five stars, as Hydrox has always tasted better than Oreo, with a more chocolate wafer and more refined, less sweet filling, but this new iteration needs some fine tuning. This version of Hydrox, which was created without benefit of access to the original recipe, while excellent, does not currently reach the "outstanding" category of the original. Having grown up with Hydrox, I can state unequivocally that the center filling of the new cookies (as of November 2015) is way too thick. The original Hydrox filling was thinner than that of Oreo, allowing the wafer to be more prominent in the mix. In addition, the original Hydrox center filling was somewhat translucent, imparting a slightly grey color, rather than the bright white found in Oreo and the new Hydrox.I applaud Leaf for reintroducing Hydrox. As far as gaining grocery store self space, I'm guessing it may be a challenge to compete against Oreo and it's 18 varieties. But some fine tuning is needed - the center filling needs to be reduced in volume to match that of the original, which means not as thick as found in Oreo. And if possible, it would be great to return the center filling to the original somewhat translucent, slightly grayish white color. But ... if you're on the fence about buying these -- do it! They're still significantly better than Oreo.UPDATE: I contacted Hydrox Customer Service and received this reply on 12/2/15: "Yes, we are in the process of tweaking the machines to correctly cover the cookie and add less of the filling. Look to see the improved version in a month or so."So hopefully Hydrox will be in the five star category sometime in early 2016.

I like them more than I like Oreos.
I've never been a huge fan of Oreos, but my mom has always loved them. But, she stopped buying them since they're moving production out of the country.I bought these Hydrox for my mom since they're made in America. She loves them. Surprisingly, so do I.With Oreos, I could take them or leave them. But, these Hydrox are so much better. The cookie is better, the cream is better, they have a preferable level of sweetness. Before I knew it, I had eaten about a dozen with my tea!I remember eating Hydrox cookies in the 90's, but I honestly don't remember the specifics well enough to compare them to these. So, I can't speak to how these taste in comparison to how they supposedly used to taste. But, it's a delicious cookie on its own merits. If you did want to make comparisons, it's a clear winner against Oreos in my book.
