Improvement over the FI8918W design BUT can't tilt as far down... :(
Improvement over the FI8918W design and having the IR-cut filter which helps the colors in daylight but with one major down fall is it can't tilt as far down as the FI8918W can. IMO this is more necessary then having the IR Filter.Pros:- Has IR-cut filter (can hear it click,).- This camera will accept the latest FI8918W firmware. (did before initial setup via Ethernet).- Rear has Ethernet port, audio in/out jacks, power and removable Wi-Fi antenna.- VGA resolution (640 x 480) is fine.- No issues with Wi-Fi connectivity.Cons:- Can not turn full turn down like the old FI8918W can. One of the other reviewers posted a video indicating this. So if you have pets or want to monitor a baby in a crib don't get this camera. You will have to prop up the rear or use the included wall stand to get the angle.- The mic and speaker phone are fine but you need to use it as walkies-talkie to avoid the feed back both ways. Same with previous models. This being a new model why would Foscam call it the FI8916W compared to the older model FI8918W? I would NOT buy this model again due to the limitation on panning down. The FI8918W will let you see a little of it base when all the way pan/tilted down. IMO go with the FI8918W or there 720p model.(see attached pics)UPDATE 08/29/2016-No issues, no Wi-Fi drops, rock solid.Latest firmware version:System: 11.37.2.65WebUI: 2.4.10.13Improvements:1) Optimized the login password security level.2) Deleted the MSN function.3) Enhanced the DDNS feature. Still no freedns.afraid.org support :(

Compatible with Vera Lite. Everything works
I ordered this to use with Vera Lite over the internet so I could see my home while I'm away. I've only had it about 2 weeks and so far it works very well. I have a wireless set up using my Apple Time Capsule. All I did was setup the camera through its web interface...I didn't even use the software that came with it. I assigned the IP and port, did the same in Time Capsule, then added an IP camera through Vera. The last step was to setup the camera with Vera with those same IP and port numbers. The only limitation seems to be the Vera itself. The camera doesn't show a continuous video feed....it looks more like a snapshot. I have other apps on my various devices which are specifically for IP cameras, and every function is usable through those including continuous video. The picture during the day is great for my purposes. Faces are probably a bit difficult to make out unless they're close, but I can definitely see whats going on. Night vision is also wonderful indoors. The picture is black and white, but its bright as the IR LEDs look like flood lights through the video.Overall I'm very please with its performance. Video stream is generally smooth through wireless, controls work as expected, and setup (if you have somewhat basic networking knowledge) was fairly easy. I had to experiment a bit in my Time Capsule as I wasn't as familiar with its settings or where things were located, but that's no fault of the camera. I ordered one just to make sure it worked the way I wanted, and I've now ordered a couple more.UPDATE 23dec2015:Downgraded to 3 stars. I have 5 cameras overall, and the video is still great with SD limitations. That said, the LEDs have failed and/or flicker on 3 of them to the point that the night vision is unusable. I can see them flickering in the dark and one is almost completely off. The other two have held up so far with no issues. We'll see if I change them to something else (as I need night vision), or just swap cameras around.

Much Improved, Love the IR Cut
I've been using a couple of "minion-style" IP cams to monitor my 3D printers for a year now. The IR sensitivity of the previous cams has been a real problem since 3D printers are like beacons spewing IR, and it's difficult to get decent picture quality. The IR-cut feature of this cam really helps with that. Setup was a breeze for both wired and wireless, and the web interface is much nicer than the WANSview one I've been using. Picture quality and color fidelity are excellent, with one exception - bright yellow objects saturate the image sensor and appear blinding white. And I like to print in bright yellow plastic :(The camera is elegantly shaped and its motion is smooth and quiet. Unfortunately, it's gotten noticeably larger in both diameter and height from the "minion" style - I'd rather see things go the other way, to a smaller design. I also wish there was a preference setting to have it bypass the initial screen when logging in where it gives you a choice of ActiveX, Server Push, or Mobile Phone. I would like to be able set it to default to Server Push and just take me straight to Live Video when I type in the URL.

Easy if you're a geek, hit or miss otherwise
The software that it came with was not very useful. Basically do this:Connect it with the CAT-5 cable enclosed to your router and turn it onIf the IP Camera Tool shows blank, then go to your router and locate the IP Address of the camera, then log into it via that IP address.Go to the wireless settings, scan for your wireless router, add it and set the ip address. Change the port from 80 to something else.Enable DDNS. You will see the ddns web address on the bottom of the camera ([...]).Disconnect the hardwire, reboot it and you should be good to go. To access from the web use[...] where xxx is the unique address of the camera as stated, and pp is the new port number. Finally, change the username and password from the admin. You will need to download VLC to listen to the audio.Haven't tried the microphone or alert settings yet, but so far, so good.

Good camera. Similar to previous unit, but with a slightly larger base.
I bought this unit to replace a Foscam FI8918W IP camera, which finally failed about about 5 days of constant service. The FI8916W is essentially the same camera, but with better (more accurate) color filters. It is in a more stylish shape, but largely the same unit (at the same price too).My only real complaint relates to the fact that the base is actually larger than the previous model, which can be an issue if mounting in a confined space. The location of the DC socket at the base of the camera, has also been changed. This may or may not affect the placement of the power adapter, depending on where you plan to install it.I can't comment on the ease of set-up, as I had saved the settings from the prior unit, and simply "uploaded" them onto the new camera. Seems to work exactly the same way as its predecessor.

Instructions are not the best. Other than that it's pretty good
Little hard to setup on smartphone. Instructions are not the best. Other than that it's pretty good.

My cats now see me as god
I bought a couple of these to add to my ZoneMinder CCTV system (free, open-source Linux software supporting analogue and IP cameras), to keep an eye on my two young cats whilst I'm working in my office. They have a history of shredding wallpaper around the window reveals, and by the time I get to the room, they're down and looking innocent, so it's impossible to train them.I tried in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, and the camera works fine in all three browsers, with no need to install any plugins. For anyone interested in ZoneMinder, these work perfectly, including pan and tilt control. You can set them up as either a remote monitor, or let ZoneMinder do motion detection as with any other type of camera. The image quality is not the best, I'd best describe them as similar to the front-facing cameras on most tablets and smartphones, but these cameras cost £37. It's still more than usable, and better than what you see from a lot of CCTV footage on TV. They react to light level changes reasonably quickly. At night. the IR illumination works really well - in fact, I set these up at night, plugged into my router in another room, and went back to make sure I'd turned the ceiling light off. These are 802.11n (2.4GHz), or can be plugged in via ethernet. There are a host of options, in the admin pages, for multiple users (either admin, viewer or operator), IP settings can be via DHCP or over-ridden, Dynamic DNS support, FTP upload, alarm, etc.As for the cats, so far I haven't caught any damage, but I have caught them jumping on places which they know are out of bounds. There is a genuine look of shock when they realise I've caught them, despite not being anywhere to be seen.
