Strange film, imaginative but you need to be open to the challenge of watching something very odd.
I am deaf and know ASL. This is certainly a film like no other. After awhile you seem to get the dialogue. The characters somewhat grow on you. Would I recommend this to your "hollywood style" film loving people, No. But if you are willing to push yourself to seeing the most strangest film that be IT.Be aware its filled with graphic sex and violence. Lots of side of the head, cuffing.

Darkest film I've loved since 'Children of Men'
Brilliant film; however, very dark. Some films one can watch over and over - this is probably not one of them. The performances and film making are first class. The subject matter is very dark.

Edgy & Understated
A film entirely in sign language - it kept me watching for much of the film. Just over 2 hours - it takes a lot of devotion, but is well worth it. Also not for the faint of heart - some graphic scenes.

Power without words
Definitely worth a watch but know what your watching.. There are no subs.. If your not familiar with sign in that language you'll have to use context clues and body language

Whoa, even though this was a "silent" film, it was able to keep my attention the entire time. I don't know sign language, and that did not matter. This movie was like watching Director Larry Clark's "Kids" with a bit of Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" thrown in at the end. I see that someone mentioned not to watch it alone, or with children. I would never even think to let a minor watch this one, but I think most people will agree that it's not scary in a horror genre way. You definitely can watch it alone. In fact, it's one of those cinematic masterpieces that you'll tell others to check out. It's a great film.

Body language is the loudest voice. This movie proves it!
Amazing movie. Body language is the loudest voice. This movie captures body language in an undeniable manner. No words were needed to feel suffering and love in this movie.-Rich

Not for tender hearts
Alarming, and disturbingly powerful exploration of deaf culture in the Ukraine.

The truth will set you free.
A movie about a group of deaf teenagers in a residential school, played entirely by deaf actors. If you think that sounds PC or worthy you couldn't be more wrong. These are kids deprived of just about every advantage in life and dealing with it with pragmatic resouceful indifference to right and wrong. Every word is signed, there are no subtitles, no concession whatever to those who can hear.Fast moving and sometimes brutal, a true work of art. And a love story.

School of crime
Intensely disturbing film in which innocence is brutally transformed into a sort of grisly, morbid adulthood. the bleak backdrop of the entire movie adds to its disturbing effect. the brutal animal lives that the kids of the deaf and dumb school are forced to lead is indeed an insight into unseen minds and institutions that survive on the fringes of society away from public gare. the prostitution racket that the school boys run with the help of the administration and some teachers is gory to say the least. the school is all what a school should not be. Brilliant, acting by the young cast (who I think are also physically challenged ) adds to the power of the movie.the director needs to be commented for focussing light into dark, forgotten and discarded lives.

shocking and disturbing
compelling watch , but very shocking especially the end be prepared for full on sex scenes. It pulls no punches . you have to feel sorry for the young boarders of this school the teachers have absolutely no control. And the older gang members, actually run the school, including a prostitution racket by selling two of the girls to lorry drivers.

disturbing and shocking
OK. It works. It's dark and disturbing and the ending is one of the most shocking things I've seen for a long time in a social drama. Universally well-acted and the story drives along at an almost hypnotic pace, taking us from set piece to set piece. After the first few minutes, I was drawn into the lives of these characters and the fact that there is no spoken dialogue did not matter..... not for the faint-hearted, though!

No No NO!
mega violent - why did the critics give it 5 stars? ... like me probably intrigued about a film in sign language. If they had negative stars this would be minus 5!

Genial.
