Great resource, great exercises
This is a great book and resource to have in our home library. Many of the exercises are great ideas for days when I just need a creative outlet to reconnect with myself and hit the reset button. I think it is excellent that there is no artistic experience required and the exercises really do reflect that, it is great for everyone. I I also like the variety of exercises included, there is something for everyone, the photography and digital section stood out for me.The book starts with a brief background on art therapy, how it works and the benefits of it. Then it gets into the exercises. As far as the exercises go, they are easy to follow. True purpose and direction is easy to understand. I enjoy the photos throughout the book as well, really beautiful.Overall I am happy with this book and will enjoy going through some of these exercises, especially on overwhelming days where I need a creative outlet. Thanks for reading this and please do let me know if this is helpful by clicking on the helpful button below, and feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions or would like to see additional pictures and I will do my best to answer it. Thank you, cheers. Cass

What a Gift for the Corona Quarantine
I opted to get a reviewer copy of this book from Amazon Vine thinking that it would be a good source of art project ideas, and it ended up being even more. We spent the long Easter weekend going through random projects that sounded good, but ended up incorporating the questions and after a couple, they kids searched for projects that let them express the feelings they wanted to express and the work was beautiful and the conversations were great. It helped get them talking about what the lockdown really meant to them. For such an unintentional approach, we got amazing results. The book has a brief and decent description of art therapy in the beginning of the book, but the majority of the book is given over to specific art therapy project ideas. There is a huge variety of projects broken into drawing and painting, Digital and photography, Writing, Scupture, etc. There is something for everyone and a good excuse to break into new genres. They usually suggest and hour which has been good for us to do one or two a day (when it is snowy and cold outside.) We are especially looking forward to the nature installation of found items. Once it warms up again we are going to do a hike for inspiration and materials. The book is lightly illustrated, I'm guessing to keep your options open to whatever you can come up with rather than to match an example. Love this book!

Adaptability
I like planning the night before which art prompt to try the next day. It really applies to me as an abuse victim and has helped me process some of my hard emotions.

Great book with awesome exercises!!
Recently I've been wanting to become an art therapist but I wasn't sure if it was for me. I bought this book to get a little taste of it and I love this book! The examples and excerises are great and it's a easy read! It shows different exercise is multiple mediums that I never thought about using but it really opened my eyes to the possibilities.

For a book on art therapy, I thought it would be more visual
While this book has great content, for an art book, you'd think it would be heavily illustrated or have photos, but it does not. That said, there are a lot of great exercises in it to help ease the mind and find focus through art, which is its main purpose. The format is simple and to the point with a variety of activities from writing to drawing photography. There are images here and there in the book, but they are mostly aesthetic, not illustrative of the activities themselves which would have been nice...either showing an example of the project or as a step-by-step guide. I guess the author didn't want to be too prescriptive or bias the would-be artist, but let you follow your own vision? Other than that, it's a good book for those looking to manage their thoughts through art.

A great book with lots of practical examples
I received this book specifically to write a review. That said, I try to be honest and open in all my reviews.(I generally include pictures, but the system is not allowing pictures to be uploaded now. I will add those in the future as I am able.)This was an interesting book that both talked about the theory of art therapy as well as included two dozen practical exercises. I liked it. The book is nicely laid out. It could have used several more illustrations and pictures, but that might have driven up the cost of the book.According to the book, there are two aspects to art therapy. One is addressing the patient's feelings of pride and accomplishment by empowering him or her through creating cool pieces of art. The second aspect is having the patient create art on particular topics and then *interpreting* the art to better the understand the state of the patient's psyche. If you are a dyed-in-the-wool believer in the current psychological evaluation and treatment regimens then you will applaud this book and buy into it wholly. If you are skeptical of our general ability to understand the depths of someone's soul from a picture of a box and a mouth-less face then this book is not going to convince you of the veracity of the approach. All in all, it is a good book worth a look if you are a practicing therapist or you are a caretaker for someone that is struggling.

Art therapy for dummies
Brilliant! If you thought you had to be gifted to use art therapy, think again. This book can be used by anyone who has any ‘artistic’ bones. Love it.
