There were several masters of animation during Hollywood's golden era. Of the top two geniuses, one created elaborate fairy tales and ornate feature-length fantasias -- the other guy was Tex Avery. He just wanted to make you laugh. Having already been integrally involved in the development of Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny for Warner Bros., Avery moved to MGM in 1941 to create a set of comedy masterpieces that defined a new slapstick style for animation, inspiring cartoonists, comedians and filmmakers for decades to come. Avery's unit at Metro Goldwyn Mayer was all about breaking the fourth wall, shattering expectations and making audiences fall down with laughter. His one-shot masterpieces, including Bad Luck Blackie, Red Hot Riding Hood and Symphony in Slang, have proven themselves pure gold. And continuing characters like Droopy, Screwball Squirrel and George & Junior -- not to mention Spike, Red and The Wolf -- remain unforgettable comic personas among the top rank of cartoondom. Avery's cartoons were ahead of their time -- and their time has come. Finally committed to Blu-ray , this first collection of restored Technicolor shorts feels fresh and new, and is funnier than ever. This set will delight young and old -- and will amaze a new generation ready to laugh again. -- JERRY BECK, Animation Historian

Great collection
A great collection of cartoons that are comedic and a bit risqué for all the adult children in us .

Happiness has arrived.
Was very happy when my copy of this release finally arrived. I had been hoping for a Blu-ray release of Tex Avery cartoons for a long time. This was worth the wait. The cartoons themselves are great. When Tex moved from Warner Bros to MGM in 1941, he brought speed and fluidity to animation that hadn't been seen before. it's like all the stops were pulled out and no holds were barred. The humor works so well, even today almost 80 years later. I think the key is that Tex didn't have kids in mind when making these shorts. He even stated so in an interview near the end of his life. not to say that these cartoons are Adults Only. Kids can enjoy too. But much was aimed at the grownups. The 19 cartoons in this collection cover a variety of characters from one-shot characters to frequently appearing characters like Screwball Squirrel and Droopy. There are only 4 Droopy cartoons, but there will hopefully be more releases. The restoration on these cartoons is top notch. There isn't a fleck or scratch to be seen. Beautiful color and sound. This is a bare bones release with no special features, but that's ok. There is also the typical Warner brothers disclaimer about how these cartoons are a "product of their time" and may be irreverent or offensive to some, but if you just keep that in mind and enjoy what you see, you'll be fine. This is just the tip of the iceberg. if you have any affinity for Golden Age Era animation, please purchase this volume. It will hopefully prompt Warner Studios to release more of the works of the great Tex Avery.

Pure GOLD.
So many of us have been waiting for decades to see Tex Avery's MGM cartoons given the treatment they so obviously deserve. Was it worth the wait? YES. These cartoons have never looked this good. Of course the content is exceptional. Zany stuff that's guaranteed to make you laugh. Mr. Avery continues to be my all-time favorite because he created a style that was truly unique and different. Wild, unpredictable, and amazingly self-aware...these cartoons are PURE GOLD. And WELL WORTH the price. Many may not realize that during his time with Warner Bros. Mr. Avery [a] gave Bugs Bunny his personality (including the "What's Up Doc?" line), [b] created the Daffy Duck character, and [c] transformed Porky Pig into the character we all know and love today. Can't wait to see the next batch. Hats off to the folks at Warner Bros. for cleaning up this fantastic collection of classic cartoons.

Hooray for Tex Avery!
This is by far the best quality we have ever seen these classic cartoons presented in. I am thrilled by how beautiful these cartons look.I truly hope that there will be more Tex Avery volumes in this series, as some of my favorites of his didn't make it to this collection. But that's no reason not to jump on this while you can, as many of his greatest hits are to be found here. Back in the VHS days there was a wonderful collection of Tex Avery cartoons that was also labeled as a "Volume One" that as far as I know never received a Volume Two. And it went out of print long before VHS faded away, making his work that much tougher to get. Don't let the same thing happen to you with this BluRay. You never know how long it will be around, so GRAB IT. You won't be sorry.

Good, but could be better
I love these old MGM cartoons, but there were quite a few duds on this disc that were boring and skipped past. Was hoping for more Droopy or Screwey squirrel cartoons, but I guess that's how they get you to buy the other volumes. It's still worth having in the collection though.

Great Blu-ray remaster
Loved watching theses cartoons as a kid. However, you don’t see them on TV anymore due to depiction of violence & racist stereotypes. While I do find the stereotypes to be objectional, it was the product of the times. Doesn't make it right by any means. However, I still enjoy the cartoons. I agree with the disclaimer that Warner displays before the main menu: while they do not approve of some of the content, removing it would negatively affect the presentation. As far as the quality is concerned, the presentation is flawless. There is nary a scratch or spec of dust to been seen. Picture quality is absolutely pristine. The colors pop off the screen. The audio is also very good.An absolute great remaster of some truly mad-cap cartoons.
