Great deal for Great Quality
The Leatherman Sidekick is a great thing to have anywhere you go. I originally bought it as a fishing tool, which it works great for.All the tools work great except for the wire cutter which don't work at all which is why would have i rated it 4.5 stars not 5.I also love how the knife opens from the outside so u don't have to open the tool to use it (So does the saw but i don't use the saw very much) the knife comes very sharp and cuts everything i need it to. I still have never wished I had a bigger knife on me, this one works perfectly fine. The file works good but with the groves only going one direction, the file wants to slide diagonally as you push it forward sometimes.I have used this tool for fishing, installing electrical outlets, working around the house (on my lawn mower, fixing cabinets etc.) , and I have even cut down a 3" diameter tree with the saw.Overall I love having a multi tool with me at all times and would recommend this product. You will have to look VERY HARD to find a better deal than this; the quality is excellent. However if you have already used a multi-tool or are just willing to spend the extra $ get a more expensive leatherman like the wave or supertool, do it. You will probably upgrade anyways (Like me) if u like having a multi-tool.BTW- if you don't want the saw, or don't care, get the leatherman wingman. The only difference is it has scissors instead of a saw. And you will save $10.

The right tool(s) for the job
Although I ended up on the leatherman.com website to compare different models and their recommended retail prices, I was happy to find the model I wanted on Amazon, at a reasonable price. My Swiss Army knife has been my sidekick for decades--it got me through international travels in my youth and won me credibility during a desk job for a university's computer tech services department. After ten years managing a government access TV channel & collecting more & more funny little tools to maintain aging equipment, a colleague turned me on to Leatherman. While the Sidekick is not the top model, it provided me everything needed to reconfigure wiring through a wall in a jiffy--saw, knife, straight and Philips-head screwdrivers. I'll have to give it a name soon.

Everything I want it to be
I bought this as an EDC tool. First, I knew it it was the lightest or smallest out there and somewhere down the road I'll shell out the bigger bucks for the lighter versions of this capable tool. So, the biggest issue one might have with this multi is it isn't a featherweight, but I don't notice when wearing jeans. In lightweight khaki pants I wear to the office, it is more noticeable. The picture show a saw, but there is none on mine. That's the only bad news. The pliers work well and are spring loaded. I was amazed at how razer sharp the knife is. I shaved a few hair off my arm to test it. The blade is very thin so it will be limited to smaller tasks. The scissors are decent. Not great, not awful but decent. Some people expect it to be as good as 12" fabric scissors, which it isn't. But, it cuts paracord and medical tape really easily. The feature that unexpectantly excited me was the hook shaped cutting tool. I have used this cut open boxes and it wizzes through. It is ergonimc since you can just pull toward you instead of cutting away like you would with a knife; plus you save wear on your knife blade.I haven't used the screw drivers yet. I used the file on my ferrocerium rod. Lots of sparks! I am very happy with this multi which is quantum leap of over the no-name multi I used to have. I expect to enjoy this for years to come.

Mastering the compromises.
I have never been a fan of multitools. My experience with them in the past was that they were a jack of all trades and master of none. This sidekick, however, has proven to be a useful tool that I try to never leave home without. Surely there are some compromises... The screwdrivers are not on the center axis of the tool, which makes using them awkward, and the knife needs frequent sharpening to maintain a good edge. However these compromises are minimalised when compared to other tools of this nature, and the sidekick is a worthy addition to my edc. It fits nicely into my pocket without being uncomfortable as well, which I did not expect for antool of this size.

Spring tab broke after a few uses.
Editing me review of this tool, downgrading from a 5 star to 3. Why? I bought this tool about a month before leaving to backpack Greece for a month. I've had other multitools but decided to give the Sidekick a go as it had a few more features. I used it once on a camping trip in September, and stowed it away until October. I used it once in Santorini and the tab broke off that gives the pliers their springy-ness. I used the tool for about 4 weeks after that and besides that one thing I loved it. I'll be contacting Leatherman for their lifetime warranty and should they offer good customer service I'll return it to a 5 star no problem.

The right tool for the right job
I own the wave, the surge, the skeletool, and the micro. I'm all about having the right tool for the right job. It just makes things easier. If I only had $40 to spend on a multi tool this is the one I'd get. It's not perfect for everything but it's a great all around tool and decent substitute for the wave. The blades are smaller, but it covers all essential functions for 90% of what 90% of us need a multi tool for. This was a gift for my son to start him off in the tool snob tradition I have grown to love.

Leatherman Sidekick
I lost my old leatherman and replaced it with the Sidekick. It seems to be made well. I tested the Phillips head screwdriver because it is kind of flat. I wasn't sure if it would actually work, but it did. The file on the Sidekick is much smaller than the file on my old one, but I guess it's ok for a portable multi-tool. I like the clip on the Sidekick. I may not have lost my old one if it had the clip. I'm not sure what to use the lanyard clip for, I would have prefered a hole punch in place of the lanyard clip. Overall it's fine and I would recommend the Sidekick to someone who likes to have a multi-tool available all the time.
