I can't wait to plan a Dr. Who themed party!
This book is perfect for anyone who wants to throw a Dr. Who themed party (or a sci-fi party with a Whovian subtheme). The recipes range from appetizers to entrees to cocktails, so you can put together a full menu just using this book. The recipes are not just regular recipes with a Dr. Who name slapped on, and nor are they weird concoctions that no one one would actually eat after the pictures are taken. This is a legitimate collection of Dr. Who-themed dishes that will taste good and also look delightfully Whovian. The connection of each recipe to the individual episode makes it extra fun for the hardcore nerds. The pictures of the food are great--especially the crack in the wall! I can't wait to recreate them for my Dr. Who 50th anniversary party! (yes I'm planning this far in advance shut up).

Not just for fans!
Yes, I am an unabashed Doctor Who fan. So I am delighted by the concept of making a Slitheen skin suit from a pear, or creating a banana-nutella Dalek. But the Vampire Space Fish, Silurian Hot House salad, and Vincent's Rustic Potatoes are simply wonderful, tasty recipes put together in interesting ways. When was the last time you found a modern recipe book with a syllabub? But to be honest, it's really the narrative of the author's episode-by-episode inspiration that makes this book fun to read, whether you actually make any of the recipes or not (you really should make a few, though).Oh yes. There is a whole section on Fish Fingers and Custard. Opening with a recipe for British Custard (NOT the same as the American variety), the section goes on to devise a series of variations (faux fish and/or faux custard) that will appeal to any taste. Even a custard cocktail that I don't think I will try, even if I knew where to get cupcake flavored vodka.

Super fun journey
This cookbook is amazing. I love how the author took an inspiration from each episode to make a dish from. There are so many fun and unique ideas, and I cannot wait to share the food and fandom with more friends. There is something for everyone - from simple nibbles to eleborate construction, things for only adults and things the kids will love making as well as eating.

Some very good recipes
This book has some very good recipes, and some that are not so much. I would have given it five stars, but a few of the recipes have inedible ingredients (cotton swabs as Dalek stalks, for example) and one or two recipes paid absolutely no attention to how flavors would combine, but put ingredients together because they looked good. I did like the appendices in back with meal plans and course lists, and I'm going to BevMo first thing tomorrow to get stuff for the cocktail recipes. The writing is fun as are the authors anecdotes. The tie ins to the episodes are fun and creative. You can tell the author had fun writing this book.

Cooking along with the show - what a great idea!!
I enjoyed this book, but then I've sat down and read cookbooks since I was 9 years old. So many people miss out on all that a cookbook has to offer because they think its just a collection of recipes, when in fact so many of them are so much more.Great humor and the writing was not half bad.Just one problem - I wish the author would have included a picture with every recipe so you'd have a complete understanding of what they had in mind for the finished product. Also, being that I don't drink, I wish the author had been able to come up with more that was not alcoholic beverages - or maybe offered substitute ideas for the alcohol. I didn't include this when I selected the stars because that does sound like a lot to ask for, but then again I can't be the only doctor fan that doesn't drink.Enjoy :)

Maybe My Daughter Will Want To Learn How To Cook Now?
Fun cookbook with cute themed recipes. I mainly ordered this because my daughter and I are big Dr. Who fans and I thought this would be a motivator that would encourage her to learn to cook. I haven't yet tried any of the recipes because I just received it today. I'll probably update my review when I do. At this point, my only complaint is that each recipe doesn't have a photo. I find recipe photos so helpful! At any rate, the recipes are clear and written in a conversational manner by an author who is clearly a seasoned Whovian. I'm enjoying reading through it. :)

Not worth it
The recipes are boring, and some are barely recipes at all. Now I know why there were no sample pages to look at online. I'm returning mine for a full refund....

Neat ideas….a bit dry
Love the concept - other pictures would be nice for all of the items….and where do you get/what are pocky sticks?? I am guessing some kind of British candy or such, but really, an explanation at the first use would be awesome. Some of the ideas (such as the Ood soup) are hard to visualize. I do think that the organization would be better with an intro paragraph, then put the recipe down, and a final paragraph at the end, if needed. The little comments throughout, while entertaining, are distracting from the recipe and make reading it a bit more work than a cookbook should be.

Food for Who
Just came across a link to this on the Kindle and downloaded it.What can I say, I've only read two of the recipes, Banana Dalek and Sontaran Soldiers. The latter had me thinking of bread and eggs but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was nothing of the sort but in fact jacket potatoes which the whole family will eat, I have at least one fussy eater at home.Reading the recipe for Banana Dalek almost had me in tears of laughter. Chris-Rachael Oseland has a lovely turn of phrase and from the little bit I've read seems to have a wonderful way of putting her recipes down which a few of the big name chefs could use with learning.

Silly and fun
Despite poor proofreading (difference between its and it's, elicit and illicit for example), this is a delicious present idea for Dr.Who fans. The writer has a lovely sense of humour, and does try to compensate for being American in terms of ingredients and instructions - really no problem for anyone used to adapting recipes. You are bound to pick up a jolly party idea and you will smile while reading.

Bit chatty, but good for fans
It goes through each episode, giving a recipe for each one - lots of good ideas, though some episodes were clearly harder than others! It is a bit chatty, which makes it good for light-reading, but if you're a very serious cook, might get more annoying. But I liked the tone, and am going to use some of the ideas for my Dr Who party - overall, a success!

But it looks like it was typed up in word
It is a load of recipes inspired by doctor who, I have to give it that. But it looks like it was typed up in word. Most of the recipes are things you either could not or would not want to eat. And the photographs of the dishes make them look very unappealing.I bought it as a gift but had to return it and find something else instead, very disappointed.

This is worth buying just for the commentary IMO; the recipes I've tried so far have been really easy to follow and have turned out wonderfully. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of them.,,

Fantastic!
Marvellous read packed with ideas. Some of the ideas seem a little desperate, but considering there's an original recipe idea for each episode at time of publishing (Modern seasons 1-6).Great gift for any Doctor Who fan!

carino ma nulla di più
Poche fotografie, alcune idee decisamente immangiabili... bella l'idea, ma il libro è decisamente inconsistente... viva il dottore..e abbasso sti commenti di amazon con le parole minime
