2018 Reprint of 1999 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. This volume pulls together and republishes, with some editing, updating, and additions, articles written during 1978-86 for internal use within the CIA Directorate of Intelligence. The information is relatively timeless and still relevant to the never-ending quest for better analysis. The articles are based on reviewing cognitive psychology literature concerning how people process information to make judgments on incomplete and ambiguous information. The essays selected are the most relevant to intelligence analysis and most in need of communication to intelligence analysts. The articles are intended to help the intelligence analysts understand and interpreted the issues that most intelligence analysts face. Review: Learning to think about thinking - Also a book that should be required reading for every college student learn how to think about thinking Review: I found it easy to read and understand - I'm relatively new to the world of intelligence analysis as a practice. Although this book is a bit old, the information contained is really about how the human mind works, and that doesn't change that quickly. I found it easy to read and understand. I would recommend if you find something interesting that you follow up on the specific topic and see if/how it has evolved since this book was put together. For instance, there are new developments in Analysis of Competing Hypotheses (ACH), but if you want a straightforward, succinct intro - this is a good place to get it. If you're looking for a foundation in intelligence analysis, this book seems like a good place to start.

useful advise and analysis
This book is already a required text in many schools but I recommend it to intelligence analysts and leaders that evaluate intelligence reports. The kindle version of this book is much cheaper but the version that I received lacked some of the visual graphics that are discussed. The book is a collection of a series of articles written about how the mind processes information and it discusses the influence that psychology has on intelligence analysis. Overall, it helped me to evaluate my own development as a professional and question my methods of handling information at work. I did find some chapters to be entertaining while others read like a text book.

Excellent material
Very in-depth look into the mind or what is required in the mind of an intelligence analyst. Great info for someone trying to grasp the overall picture.

Great book, Well-written
This book applies to many professionals in addition to intelligence analysts, particularly lawyers and law-enforcement personnel. I highly recommend it to any litigator who wants to improve the quality of his or her analysis of legal problems.

Not so sure
I don't want to post a negative posting about this book. However, I ordered it for a crime analysis course and found it useless. I assume because it didn't really fit the course. In reading the other reviews, maybe this book is more for psychology courses.

He tenido que devolverlo. No se descargaba en mi kindle. He probado con otros libros y no había problema. En cambio este no conseguía bajarlo de ninguna manera.

Kindle scan poor quality
On my kindle, this comes out: a) as a poor quality scan which b) is rotated anti-clockwise and almost unreadable (if I rotate the Kindle, the book rotates around back to the original unreadable position). After purchasing this (and being disappointed), I discovered that the CIA seem to have a freely-downloadable PDF copy in their library, which seems to be the same book and generated directly from the original sources (not a scan). So I think that I will be reading the PDF on my PC, not this poor copy on my Kindle.

Bad printing/pirated copy delivered
Seems a pirated copy with bad printing is delivered. As the product can only be replaced but not returned, I am stuck with this.
