The Beast and the Magic Sword

There is a lot to like about the movie- great werewolf face and performance, lots of good characters, some key scenes, and for me the Japan setting is great flavor. The blu ray image may be one of those best source available things, some shots crystal clear, some not in focus. It wasn't too distracting, and may be more in the first part of the movie, I don't know, but at times it was noticeable. The disc offers two options for ratio, I don't know if one has better image. An expert review would be helpful. Overall I'd say this is a must have for fans of Naschy, and might grow on newbies and those without digital bias. So far my favorite Naschy film is Devil Incarnate, I have many more to watch. I think this one will be in my top five.

I've been watching this movie for years on bad VHS transfer to DVD copies so this comes as a huge surprise to see it restored beautifully with care and delivered on blu ray.I never thought in my tape trading days that things like this would come about.Such a unique movie combining Spanish Horror with Japanese themes. One of a kind. Just like Paul Naschy was.

I can appreciate Mondo Macabro releasing obscure horror and cult films, but the cover displayed on the product page does not match what you'll receive. The cover received has a really noticeable and rather annoying error on it. Check out the woman's wrist.When reaching out to their customer support asking if they have a correction the response I received was a monosyllabic "nope." So then what happened to the artwork they're using for their product pages?

I just purchased this video and it's one of the very best werewolf movies ever made with big, larger than life werewolf action scenes. Watch the werewolf go on a big-time vicious rampage, attack numerous groups of people and especially watch the werewolf as it gets pitted inside a dungeon go fang to fang, claw to claw with a bengal tiger. This is definitely a must-see movie for all werewolf lovers. I suggest that more copies of this movie be made so that way other people may see this awesome masterpiece for themselves.

It's Spanish dubbed in English. Even for low budget horror, it's bad. It tries to be a old samurai film mixed with a werewolf film. The blend didn't go well this time.

I didn't like this film, not in english. Even with sub titles which I don't mind at times the film just didn't hold my interest. Wasted money for sure, but you lose sometimes.

Wer hätte gedacht, dass Werwölfe und Schwertkämpfe so langweilig sein können?Ganz wie in dem Titelbild werdet Ihr ab und zu nackte Brüste sehen können, was wohl von der stumpfsinnigen Handlung ablenken soll. Die ganzen Bonusinhalte der Blue Ray haben mich nicht interessiert (Kommentare), der Film ist komplett auf Spanisch mit englischen Untertiteln und das einzig Gute an diesem Film war die Tigerkampfszene, welche man allerdings auch nicht zu ernst nehmen sollte. Diese war mehr niedlich, besonders als der Tiger friedlich in die Kamera blinzelte beim "Sterben".Ganze 2 Stunden dauert der Film und handelt davon, wie ein schwerfälliger Wolfsmensch Unschuldige abschlachtet. Leider sieht auch das nicht sehr beeindruckend aus, besonders da sich die meisten Kampfbewegungen wiederholen und identisch wirken. Übermenschlich stark wirkt die Kreatur dabei auch nicht, nur Unverwundbarkeit zeichnen seine Überlegenheit aus. Springen, schlagen und werfen wirken wirklich sehr menschlich und ich rede nicht von sportlichen Menschen. Am schlimmsten war aber wohl doch die Liebesszene, die einfach so entstand. Keine Tiefe, keine Romantik, einfach plötzlich verliebt, wirklich nicht sehr glaubwürdig. Schade, hatte gehofft dass die Samurais den Film zumindest retten können, allerdings wirkten die Schwertkämpfe so, als würden die Gegner darauf warten getötet zu werden. Keine große Gegenwehr, wollten wohl auch schnellstmöglich den Film hinter sich bringen.Wer Samurais und Werwölfe sehen, Geld sparen und etwas Besseres geboten bekommen mag, der sollte sich lieber "Werewolf Warrior" zulegen. Da findet man sogar Kappas!
