Push the Top Down Tight
I just wrote a review, saying I was disappointed in the loudness of the whistle on this tea kettle. The problem was that I didn't have the top on tight. Now that I have figured that out, the kettle whistles loudly enough that I can hear it in every part of the house. So if you purchase this kettle, be sure the top is pushed all the way down, and you'll love it. And, the handle really stays cool, so you don't need to use a potholder when you pour.

A VERY WISE PURCHASE
This teapot is purely functional --- good looking (when new) but always boils fast & easy & safe to pour. ALL parts of the handle & Spout-Opener is cool to pop open. My only caveat is when (if) burn marks appear on the kettle, they can't be removed. (At least by my efforts). YET, the kettle does what a VERY good kettle does: Boil water fast; and let's you fill your cups safely.

Nice Kettle
Still haven't heard it whistle -- I'll have to check the instructions that came with it.Otherwise, all is good.

This really is a good product. Boils quickly, whistles loudly, easy to handle.

Works well but lid is hard to open
Main bugbear is the lid, which is so precisely engineered that it gives a such tight fit to make the lid really really hard to open... i just end up filling from the spout which is nice and wide. The handle gets a bit warm if boiling a full kettle, but still bearable. the soft touch surface on the handle gives a nice grip. Once, there was some water droplets on the spout whistle so when I pressed the push button to flip the opening, some of the hot water splashed onto my fingers as the angle was just right... after that i just made sure there was no condensation on the spout. The whistle is a low high whine which was gentle on the ears.

Unsuitable for it's intended use.
My girlfriend bought this for me as a 2014 Christmas present as I have been drinking much more tea lately and she wanted me to have a nice tea kettle for myself. Most of my cookware is stainless steel, of the tri-clad variety, used on an induction cook top, so I made sure I selected a kettle specified as stainless steel. Initially I was pleased with both it's aesthetics and performance, using it 2 to 4 times a week, and emptying it of water after each use.I just re-checked this product's description before writing this review to confirm it was (allegedly) stainless steel (and yes, that's what the Amazon description states) because by late summer of 2015 the kettle had developed a significant rust spot approximately 1 to 1-1/2 inch in diameter on the interior which had PERFORATED THE SIDE WALL rendering the kettle useless.I've dealt with various grades of stainless steel in the chemical processing industry much of my working life - mostly ASTM A-304 & 316 grade - and know it requires fairly nasty materials to inflict this amount and type of damage to quality stainless steel and in a relatively short time. Since this kettle was only subjected to boiling tap water (and not even on a daily basis) - a use for which it is supposedly designed and sold - I can only presume it's material of construction is NOT a quality grade of stainless steel and NOT suitable for it's intended use.On that basis I would not recommend the purchase of this item.Primula Avalon Whistling Tea Kettle, 2.5-Quart, Brushed Stainless Steel

Handle is not well insulated
I have to say I am slightly disappointed. I purchased this type of key tea kettle over 10 years ago. Same manufacturer. I felt I needed to replace it because the handle kept staying hotter than it should. I just used it right now, brand new and this did not have any more insulation on the handle than my 10-year-old tea kettle! You would think with all the technology, they could figure out to make a well insulated tea kettle handle that isn’t hot to the touch. What a waste of money, since the only thing that was wrong with my old one was the handle. Apparently it’s not the tea kettle. It’s the manufacturer. I gave it three stars because the rest of the tea kettle works perfectly fine and the color is still the pretty candy apple red.

Awesome satin sheen with an efficient base
This is probably our 5th kettle over many years. We really love the satin, sort of specular sheen. It looks sharp. Also, the base is nice and wide and fully covers the gas burner. The large surface area on the bottom is a more efficient design for our stove. It needs some care attention: avoid bumping it against sharp stuff in order to preserve the finish as it can scratch more-so than a fully enamel or stainless finish; also move it an arm's reach away from the stove when cooking foods that might splatter. It will stay the beautiful red for a long time if you tend to it in this way.
