CRAFTSMAN Stud Finder, 3/4-Inch Depth (CMHT77633)

I just purchased this handy dandy little gadget.TWICE neighbor girl came over looking for my 'stud finder' as she wanted to hang a shelf. borrowed her mine and then went online and bought her one for herself...told her she is going to NEED THIS little gadget FOREVER, saying to her,with a laugh, 'don't give it to your dad.you'll never see it again.' She loves it so much, I got big hugs from her for thinking of her. So I decided that I needed to buy another for my niece who just moved into her own apartment. Tell you what ,if you know young people who are out on their own and will often struggle as to 'how to' hang anything on a wall without it falling down (which ,in my own personal experience, looking back, would always be in the middle of the night, and it would scare the bejeezes out of me) This is small, easy to use and just about anyone who has ever hung anything on a wall, would love to have ! this is a great little gadget, saves one from having to make SEVERAL holes in the wall just to hang ONE thing! I remember my mother trying to hang things.alot of what she hung on the wall would have up to 5 extra unused holes in the wall behind whatever she hung up(laugh) This also works especially well for when you need to hang a curtain rod and want to be sure you anchor the mounting brackets to the stud and not the sheetrock....anchors work.kinda. Until they don't....then you're left with a huge hole in the wall from the anchor that pulled out due to the weight .( I learned this from experience, so allow my experience to spare you the pain of having to make repairs to your walls ,the way I used to have to) This operates on an easily found 9volt battery (not included). Will last for years!!!! It is an indispensable item for anyone who has ever wanted to hang ,or hans hung,anything of 'weight' on their wall.. It is well worth the cost effective price. it will cost you more to repair/patch your wall and replace what was broken when it fell off the wall because you didn't hit the stud. AND I really like that this little gadget lets you know when you are at the edge of a stud. VERY HELPFUL! You want to be dead on center when at all possible.especially if you're hanging a mirror..... not that I can say I don't enjoy the sound of breaking glass.....but it's rather dangerous to clean up that kind of mess. Yep. Everyone should have one of these.

I picked up this stud finder for a few projects around the house, and it made the job much easier. Instead of guessing where the studs were and hoping for the best, I was able to quickly locate them before drilling. The tool is straightforward to use and doesn't require a lot of setup. After a few minutes, I was finding studs consistently and felt much more confident mounting shelves and other items securely. I also like that it's compact and easy to store in a toolbox. The build feels solid, and the controls are simple without a lot of unnecessary features. For basic home projects, it does exactly what I need it to do. Overall, it's a practical tool that saves time, prevents mistakes, and is well worth having around for DIY jobs.

As described but requires 9v battery that it doesn't come with, which you only know if you watch the video on the page or when it arrives and you go to put in batteries.

I decided to try out this stud finder after a move, since I had a bunch of things I wanted to hang right away. Unfortunately, the accuracy was pretty much hit or miss. Sometimes it would detect a stud where there clearly wasn't one, and other times it would completely miss a stud that I confirmed being there using traditional methods. This led to a ton of second guessing, more holes, and a good amount of frustration. When it does work, it is easy to use and pretty compact. For the occasional use, it can maybe get the job done, but if you're using it for larger projects or a fresh move, be prepared for a bunch of double checking. Overall, it's below average, but not terrible.

Accurate and easy to use.

This thing is a waste of money. It does not work and is so cheap that while I was holding it in the air and not against a wall, it was letting out a long beep signaling the edge of a stud. It feels cheap, works like it’s cheap, and is overall junk.

Been using this thing for quite a while now... does it's job.

I got this today and I have tested it already and found it works perfectly. To those who wrote that it doesn't find the stud or they can't figure it out are simply not reading the instructions correctly. Put the sensor on the wall. Press the button and DON'T LET IT GO. Move the sensor across the wall until it beeps repeatedly. That is one edge of the stud. Repeat the process from the other side of the stud and that is the other edge of the stud. The middle of those two marks is where you drill. This is an excellent value and works like a charm. 5 stars all the way.
