Good tool with no instructions on how to use it!
I have a nova lathe and supernova chucks. I had read several reviews critical of this tool as being useless because you could do the same thing with a skew. Well maybe you can but I'm pretty new to this and figured having a tool that makes the perfect dovetail for my jaws would be worthwhile. The problem with this thing is there are absolutely no instructions with it. There are numbers on the face of the tool, no idea what those are for (I'm pretty sure they a for measuring the width of your recess, but without instructions who knows :-). There's also nothing I can find on Nova's website. I stumbled across a video on YouTube by a good tuner who goes by the handle "Robo Hippy" and he was using the tool and he taught me a lot about using it. Search for "MOUNTING BOWL BLANKS: RECESS, TENON & FACEPLATE" by Robo Hippy and you will see a gouge very similar to this one in use.Overall I like the results. Bowls are very secure on my Supernova chuck but I'm really hoping someone from Nova reads this and realizes a short video would be really helpful.

Adequate
The handle was not nearly as hefty as it could have been. Wood is cheap. Rockler should have used a little more of it. The angle was perfect but it chattered because it wasn't heavy enough.

Heavy duty Chisel
My son in law does woodworking and needed this tool. When it came in I was surprised that it was such a hefty feeling chisel. When I gave it to my son in law he was so happy to get it and was also pleased with the sturdiness of it and how it felt 'right' in his large hand.

Makes the right dovetial recess for a Nova Chuck.
Works pretty much exactly as advertised. I find a hole made exactly matching the reference marks to be slightly too small, but that is an easy adjustment to make. Would recommend this as a nearly indispensable accessory to a Nova Chuck.

Works as described
Works as described but wish the tool was longer. It could have had a longer handle. Still use it frequently but also use a Diamond point tool for cutting dove tails in recesses.

Completely unnecessary if they had only inserted the chisel in the ...
The tool does just what it is supposed to do. The anle matches the angle of the dovetail jaws of my scroll chuck. But the attention to quality control is somewhat lacking as the chisel is angled coming out of the handle instead of being straight out, so you must angle the handle to get the chisel to get it to cut appropriately. It is a bit awkward. Completely unnecessary if they had only inserted the chisel in the handle properly.
