Bought it to use for changing rear drum brakes on 2007 Tacoma. Works great and will now put it away for another 60k miles.

Pretty Good.
I try to avoid doing rear brake jobs with drums as best a possible....LOL So to that end, i have only used this tool a few times. It's effectiveness really depends on the design of the brake job you're doing. But it's been really good so far for me. Doing rear brakes is like going to battle. Every fight is going to be different so you have to find the right "Weapon" to do battle with. Not Like doing caliper brakes. What do you use??? Sockets and wrenches and DONE!!!! With rear brakes it feels like you will use anything you can find that will help you win the battle. LOL!!!! you just have to becareful not to bend the springs when using this tool cause it can happen really easily. It's very handy to have in your arsenal of tools.

Best Tool in my box......
After two days of trying to get the return springs on, losing skin off my knuckles and fingers, I'm having thoughts that I should have paid someone else to do the brake job. Going through Amazon, I came across this item. I thought about it, and I figured for a few bucks why not give it a try. I mean, all the manuals say use vice grips, maybe for most people they work, but for me, it just sucked, I needed something I could handle and get the job done. The only downside I had was the spring end was too big, it would not fit into the angled slot. I got out a small file, 5 minutes later I was in business. I slipped the spring in the tool, gripped the big handle and popped that sucker right in. This was the best deal I ever got, and cheap too. This is a valuable addition to my toolbox.

works perfectly
I have always gotten by using smooth jaw vice grips or line mans pliers and on some springs I might still need to, but when you can use this tool instead.... It is a pleasure, no more busted knuckles or flying disappearing springs!

Lisle automotive tools a decent choice.
Have always had very good luck with Lisle tools and this brake spring tool fit the task at hand replacing parking brake hardware on 2011 Subaru Forester X. Price was very good. Would recommend (although you never know if brake spring tool will work on the spring caps for your vehicle until you use them. Lisle makes good brake tools.

Get one of these, if your still thinking about...
So I had the misfortune of having to replace my brakes recently. I purchased one of these brakes spring tools and I am glad I did. You will see that the end piece of this tool, which has a one inch adjuster, the black piece. Slip the grooved area onto the straight part of the spring and turn the handle to tighten; it sure does make it a lot easier to stretch a new spring. I have tried to remove the springs with a vise grip and pliers but the brake spring tool is so much easier and Best $5 I have spent on a long time!

Saludos.

A must have for the mechanic who still needs to work on drum brakes. I’m not super impressed with the ergonomics of the handle but it does well enough. The function of the tool is great and I’m glad I got it for the odd spring that needs extra help.
