Escape!: The Story of The Great Houdini Paperback – Illustrated, April 22, 2008

This book was on the summer reading list for my daughter's rising 5th grade class. She enjoyed reading it and I read it too and learned a lot about Houdini. It is well researched and well written.

I have never been disappointed by a Sid Fleischman book and this one is no exception. The work is well-researched and the photos are phenomenal. My only heads up is that I did get this book for my almost 9 year old who is a great reader, but this was way over his head. I would say that as an independent read it is for tweens and up, however it made a great read-a-loud and vocabulary/history builder for him. Thank you Sid for another stellar piece of literature.

A great book to read

I bought this for my grandson who is 11 years old. The writing style seems geared toward older children or adults. The book did not hold his interest and he never finished it.

I bought this book for one of my students that I tutor, and prior to giving it to her, read the book myself and I can see why her 7th grade teacher assigned it. Well written with a few images to illustrate Harry Houdini's life, and even learned a few things that I didn't know even after visiting Appleton, WI back in 2006. Its one of the few books that she has been assigned that I would recommend for adults.
