GREAT unit with numb outlet arrangement
I don't often submit reviews but I others can benefit from my experience. I have been using this unit for 8 months in Tonga where the voltage varies greatly. It has worked flawlessly. I like the meter so I know when the power company is having problems. Some have complained about the clicking but this is by design and tells you it is adjusting the output voltage - just don't put in your bedroom. Several times when the clicking went crazy, at least once a second, I shut it off just in case. When new it did smell but diminished in a few months and now I have to get my nose within 2 inches to detect it. I am considering getting a second unit (maybe the 3000) for backup. The plug arrangement on the front is stupid and labeled with tiny print [110][220][110][220]. I wish they would color the outlets and group the 220v separately from 110v. My wife plugged in a small 110v fan into a 220v and killed the fan. My daughter plugged her Wii into 220v and killed the power brick. I solved it by plugging in a power strip into the 110v and told them NEVER use the plugs on the converter! This unit can power my golf cart charger (1100w), amplifier (300w), freezer (200w), 3 laptops (120w), and other small wattage items all at once without complaining or over heating. Buy this one if your needs don't exceed 1700w.UPDATE! On 9/29/14 the unit caught FIRE and destroyed itself. Good thing my wife was in the room when it lit up. It was carrying a maximum of 1100 watts at the time. This is not quite one year of use! I won't be buying this brand again. 5 stars goes down to 1 star!

Scary
This product smells like melted metal when I first open it. It makes an irritating click every 15 minutes and drives me crazy. it's very heavy and the manual does not provide enough information. It only has information on voltage use but it doesn't show all the parts. For some reason, i don't trust ths product because my PS3 is unusually heating up quickly than normal after an hour of using this converter. I want to return it but it's a hassle since the shipping costs a lot.

Using to run dual power supply server @ ~1600W
Using this device to run dual power supply server @ ~1600W. Works great, voltage levels clearly indicated on dial to left front of unit and stays rock solid on 220V.I personally wouldn't use more than around 1600W to 1800W on a device limited at 2000W - for more than this they've got a bigger one, which goes to 3000W.The device has been loaded now for me for about 5 days on a server being loaded up with junk; and its temperature is nominally higher than room. There's no noise from the unit, and if there is a fan I cannot hear it at all.I'd buy another one, have no idea how efficient it is at the voltage conversion.

Best Transformer on the market
Provides stable power at the correct voltage. Other Transformers I have purchased don't stabilize the current and it is often converted from 220v to 120-130 which will cause your 110v appliances to run hot and shorten their life span.

Good value for the price
I am an electrical engineer by training and work for an International Oil Company in Africa. I have a number of small step down transformers, voltage stabilizers and UPS systems in my apartment in Africa. The utility power supply to the apartment fails at least daily and the staff starts up a backup generator within a few minutes. Both the utility supply and generator are subject to large fluctuations in voltage.I was looking for a combination voltage converter and stabilizer that would provide 120 volts from the 240 volt supply and simultaneously provide stabilized 240 volts. This would be useful in the bedrooms, for example, to power a locally purchased TV that needed a stabilizer for the 240 volt supply and a US purchased Blu-Ray player and cordless phone that needed 120 volts. I also have photographic lighting equipment brought from the US that requires fairly high wattage at 120 volts. I wanted a single unit that would provide stable 120 volt power for the photographic lights and could be used for household equipment when not being used for the photo lighting.Upon receiving the converter, I did some preliminary testing to confirm functionality and then took the cover off the housing to exam the build quality and circuit design. Typical of cheap Chinese electrical equipment, the hand soldered connections did not look very good but everything worked OK. The converter and stabilizer is of fairly conventional design with a laminated core transformer, voltage sensor circuit and relays to select taps on the transformer to provide the regulated output. Upon sensing an out-of-range condition on the input voltage, a relay selects another tap on the transformer to correct the output voltage. The click that another reviewer found annoying is actually an indication that the unit is working - a relay clicks each time an adjustment is made for the input voltage fluctuation. My overall impression is that the unit functions as advertised and is a good value for the money. If it continues to function properly, I will purchase one or two more on my next trip back to the US in two months.
