I'm new to the Harvest Moon series, and i was wondering if i should get "Tale of Two Towns" or "A New Beginning". Which one should I get?

It really depends on what features you want. Tale of two towns separates farming with crops and animals, while a new beginning is more traditional but you build the layout of the town and your farm. Personally I would say a Tale of Two Towns would be a good start though to the Harvest Moon Series. Enjoy!

How is this different / better from "story of seasons"?

story of seasons is still a harvest moon game, just under a different name. in my opinion I preferred story of seasons for gameplay, but I liked the bachelors of a new beginning more

Is this like the old Harvest Moon games on the Gamecube where you eventually picked a spouse and had a family yourself?

In every Harvest Moon game you can pick a spouse and have a family so yes. In this game you are allowed one child and it's a cookie cutter for either the boy or girl. So the child will look the same no matter which spouse you choose.
