Good for anyone, especially if you’re single. Full of sound advice and spiritually enlightening information. Cardinal Dolan is an engaging and witty voice, making the basics of the spiritual life understandable. A great read all the way around!

This is a well written book with good insight, for both priests, laypeople, and seminarians alike. Since its writing of this book, the author, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, has been appointed cardinal of New York City. He is an amazing human being and very down to earth - even enjoying a good cigar, now and then, just like a regular guy - and yet he is very humble, despite his high standing in the church. Cardinal Dolan is a brilliant theologian who speaks well, in understandable terms, making his message accessible to people of many different backgrounds and education levels. He also communicates well with the media, and I have been particularly impressed with his appearances on programs like Meet the Press. He is often mentioned as having the potential to be a future pope, and I can certainly see why. He has an enormous zeal and commitment to the faith, and a truly sincere and joyful personality. The cardinal is young enough that he could, in fact, be elected at the next conclave. If he is, the world will be all the better for it. I hope he will be willing to embrace and encourage the traditional Catholic renewal, including the growing use of Latin and classical music in the mass. It is truly a very rich and beautiful expression, with many years of history behind it, which should never be thrown out.

This book was recommending by a friend of mine as a book to read while discerning the diocesan priesthood. The prose is very conversational, and by the end I felt like I knew His Eminence personally. The first two-thirds are an overview of essential virtues to grow in, and served as a good guide and reminder for my personal pursuit of holiness. The last third goes over the essential aspects of the priestly vocation and priestly ministry. The entire book is full of great stories that help to illustrate the ideas that His Eminence discusses. All that said, I personally found this book to be a great help in discerning and I would recommend it to anyone else who is discerning diocesan priesthood, whether they are in or out of seminary.

I think every priest, deacon, and seminarian should read this book. Archbishop Dolan writes in a way that I feel like I am back in seminary at our days of reflection. His reflections bring me to reflect on the topics presented in a deeper or new way. His example stories are fun or give a great example to add to his reflection.

This came recommended to me by the late vocation director of our Diocese. I read it during a period of discernment, and greatly enjoyed it. The book developed from a series of talks given by Cardinal Doyle when he was rector at North American College Seminary in Rome. It's structured around different Christian virtues, with a chapter on each. The first two-thirds of the book is broadly applicable to religious, ordained, and laity alike. THe last third of the book is specific to men in priestly formation, but interesting nonetheless. Highly recommended; a book I've purchased as a gift for a few friends.

The book is meant for readers who are familiar with the subject and interested in the subject of priesthood. It is not a first page to end fast reading book. It requires much thought and slow reading to assimilate the insights. The Chapter on Hope and Joy are the most insisghtful. A book to be read by every priest/Bishop and senior seminarians approaching their diaconate.Even a lay person who has frequent contacts with their priests, working with them most of the time will also benefit by reading this book.

This book is good for anyone striving to improve in the virtues, especially those that are in seminary formation. Timothy Cardinal Dolan does an excellent job at presenting the virtues and giving practical examples. If you have ever met him, you will understand that he write just as he is in person from his experiences.

This book is amazing!!! Not only for current priests or those discerning or even entertaining the idea, but it's great for anyone! For the Catholic layman OR laywoman, it's an awesome collaboration of writings from Saints and Doctors of this Church, covering everything from Faith to why Confession Matters! This guy says nothin new, but he's put together all the stuff that we need to hear!! Even for a man or woman of another faith, this book definitely helps to refine any Christian, and can give anyone a good idea as to what the good Catholic should, if he already isnt, feelin'.

A must read for priests. Engaging and full of earthed stories from parish life the a Cardinal has set out the joys and challenges of priesthood today.

This is an interesting book about priests.
