It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. See more

Cheap and poorly made
Well, I’ve had the boots for less than six months and the boot is separating from the sole on my right foot near my pinky toe. Pretty dissatisfied since I work as a bartender and I end up with my socks soaked on my right foot. I’d read really good reviews only to find that they were falling apart after 2 months

NOT Docs
I wanted to have a boot that was a bit less bulky than my 1460. I thought these were cool when I saw the on their site, so I ordered a pair here.I cannot tell you the colossal disappointment I had when I first picked them up. They feel so cheap in the hand the leather is super thin, and they just give you vibe of being some kind of Chinese knock off. The tongue refused to stay straight on both shoes. Everyone knows you have to break in docs. But these just suck. No comfort. If anyone is interested, they’re Made in China. Sold and shipped from Amazon.

Didn't last three months before ripping
After breaking them in over a period of about two weeks, these boots felt great at work, even for long shifts as a barista. Unfortunately, they did not last three months before the leather began to rip from the sole near the ball of my foot, even after applying Dr. Martens balm every few weeks from the beginning. I am very disappointed after reading many reviews about the years other people have had wearing the same pair of Dr. Martens.

if you are a half size...good luck guessing if you should buy up or down
I usually wear a mens US 10.5 and sometimes an 11....I bought a US 10 and US 11 since there are no half sizes. The 10 were definitely too small and the 11 slightly big but easily compensated with thick socks or sole inserts. according to the size chart and measurement directions i should have easily fit into the mens US 10....ouch! The 11s needed no break-in and are as close as you will ever get to having on tennis shoes. Love the supple oiled leather feel for casual wear. Sent the 10s back for refund...AMAZON was very quick with the refund

favorite shoe
great shoe. tough. after break-in period they rule. I would recommend not drinking too much, hopping walls and walking home in the middle of the night to break yours in like I did though. enjoy taking an extra few minutes to get your shoes in and off though.

They seem used
I am not writing a review with regards to the comfort of the shoe, as I have just received them and Dr. Martens sometimes take time to break in, but more so to review the state of the shoes that I received. I ordered these shoes expecting for them to come in the original packaging and to be new. To my dismay, they came in a generic cardboard box and the shoes themselves seemed to be used just form their exterior look. I wanted to think the scuffs were just from being loose in the box during transit, but as I looked in the shoes I noticed someone had put shoe powder in them. Thankfully they at least didn't smell. With regards to the comfort and style of the shoe; I must say they are just okay. The tongue of the shoes strays too far to one side, leaving my socks exposed in the middle. No one can tell since I'm always weraring jeans over them.

Great casual boots
I live in a climate that requires boots for about 8 months of the year (half of it with snow). These are perfect for the spring/fall time as they keep me warm and dry without looking too grotesque. One thing to note is that the sole is rather low and not as chunky as the classic air-wave ones. This means, you'll need thicker socks if walking on snow as you'll lose some heat through the thinner sole. What I love: clean look. low solesWhat I don't care about: fizzy yellow stitching (classic Martens). not breathable.

Love these boots
Love these boots. I get lots of complements on them. They're simple and do the job and seem to hold up well. I go through boots frustratingly quickly and have always loved my big sole Dr. Martens from the 90's that lasted so long that unfortunately they lived to see themselves go out of style. This newer low profile sole is where its at and I'm looking forward to these lasting until nobody would be caught dead without laser shoes.

Don't be fooled by the price. Real DM'S are worth every penny.
I've had numerous Dr Martin boots over the years these are different not in a good way the soles are not the traditional style and the sizes are different.

Good fit for me, true to size. Used some thicker socks a few times for initial break in.

The title says it all but apparently I have to waffle on for so many words for the review to be entered.

Dr. Martens Tobias Black Greasy Lamper.
(Ejemplo: 6MX = 7UK.)

Solid Boot So Far
I've been wearing these boots everyday for almost a month. My first impressions of the boot out of the box weren't too positive. But they have since grown on me. Nice clean, basic looking boot. Nothing flashy. Nice and light, not clunky at all. They felt not too bad out of the box. After 26 days of wearing them each day, they've broken in for me quite nicely. No issues with any foot pain during that process, for me at least. It may of helped I replaced the included insole with my own that I have been using for long time.I can't say they're a perfect boot after a month of wear. 4.5/5 so far for sure. My only gripe would be the process of taking them off. You have to loosen the laces a lot to take them off easily. I'll make sure to add a few photos once I can. And make any edits to my review as time goes by.

A great LIGHT boot until...
Purchased to replaced a pair of Dr. Martens Ember Chukka that I'd really grown to dislike. The Tobias takes a little while to break in and feel good due to their stiffness but boy are they light and eventually comfy. The zero drop sole (or close to zero!) makes for a truly natural gait when walking. Very satisfied.Update: After three month of wearing them in winter I have found the following: Not as slippery in snow as regular Dr. Martens and the tongue as a tendency to slide to the side. Still love the boot but will take steps to correct the tongue problem.UPDATE II: After 10 months of wearing them almost everyday the sole started separating (on the left boot) from the upper, just where it folds by the little toe.

excelente!

Nice low boot...easy on back...good leather
Great product ..size ten is a snug 9.5. Nice material and no heal is a relief to sore lower backs.I like the grip of the sole even though it looks slippery...its ok.Not a winter boot but bought for shoulder seasons myself.Wore inside a few hours to help break in. Might want to not tighten laces to the top and keep second eyelet loose till broken in a little.Leather is great! Is oiled leather so water proof and no products used to clean other than soap n water...9 out of 10..... so far!

The only shortcomings are brand-features:
Fits about as well as any other genuine Doc Martens... My feet would prefer the experience more if half sizes, and widths, were available. Nonetheless, I've worn these for a while and they're nearly broken in. I like the flat sneaker-laces. These are my "outdoor" pair (I have the canvas Alphies for indoors). I would also have preferred to have the same upper on Ranger-soles, but that not an available option... The grid-soles are acceptable. In all other respects the product is excellent: competently made and durable!

Mixed feelings
Dr Martens have a lot of volume in the boot. If your feet don't have a high instead then your feet may float in the boots. And since the leather is relatively thin, it tends to bunch up in a weird way as well. Overall, I can see why folks like Doc Martens as they're supremely comfortable when wearing them but they definitely didn't fit or look great on my feet even though the length and width were fine
