These smaller cans work for smaller jobs that need just a few ounces.
I've been a long-time user of POR-15 on my car's underbody and suspension parts as I live in the rust belt of the US. The smaller 2 oz. cans of POR-15 are perfect for yearly touch-up of components under the car to prevent rust, or control rust that has already started and needs to be arrested. I recently bought a 1998 car that spent it's life in WV and I used one 2 oz can under the car to cover most of the frame rails and the rear differential and a few axle parts. The semi-gloss black looks good. My experience with POR-15 is that it will stand up to the winter salts for 2-3 years before a touch-up is needed. Good kit.

Magic paint, make sure to wear disposable gloves - Perfect size cans
I rebuilt my brake system on my car and POR15 came as the perfect product to apply to backing plates and other protective shields after media blasting. Works very well, super hard and durable and nice finish. The paint cures and hardens very quickly, included in the can, which make this format of a set of small cans perfect for jobs where you cant do all your parts at once. Also, the paint is very liquid and tends to drip and stick to everything so make sure you work on a piece of cardboard or plastic sheet and wear disposable gloves, getting rid of it from surfaces including skin is a royal pain in the butt otherwise.

I'm a Believer!
While I needed to deal with some serious "rust remediation" issues with the under-body and frame of my '02 Dakota (after I neglected it through a couple of Northeastern winters), my initial use for POR-15 was the perpetually rusting brake calipers and drums: None of the paint products I had previously used held up for more than 6 to 9 months before discoloration and rusting set in again - even when applied to new (and clean) parts. The only prep I did was to use a hand-held wire brush to remove loose scale / dirt, and degreased with aerosol brake parts cleaner. For my purposes, sponge brush applicators have generally been best when used with a "dabbing" motion on rough-castings to provide uniform coverage and penetration. As has been noted by others: You may be pleasantly surprised by the coverage you can achieve. I was able to apply a single coat to both calipers / support brackets, both drums / backing plates, and the lower control arms with a single 4 oz. can. I used about 6 sponge brushes (2 inch) to do this, so I suggest buying them in bulk. I initially purchased the 6-pack of 4 oz. cans due to concerns about shelf-life for the larger quantities, but learned from experience that the iron oxide acts as a catalyst for POR-15, so applying it straight from a can gradually introduces small amounts of rust to the remaining material, causing it to thicken over the course of a few days use. This may also be a reason for limited shelf-life issues, so you should dispense POR-15 to another container for a small job, or a for larger task performed over a period of time. What truly impressed me was durability: I had removed the brake drums and applied the POR-15, allowing 24 hours for it to "cure". In the meantime, I decided to replace the brake shoes. Once cured, the POR-15 had a uniform gloss black appearance, although I could detect a faint reddish hue in bright sunlight. This was fine with me, as it was only a single coat, and I was curious as to how it would hold up over time. I reinstalled the drums, and then had some issues with excessive drag while adjusting the new shoes. When I tried to remove the drum to check my installation, it didn't budge, so I used a hammer around the rim to assist - and then realized that wasn't a very bright idea with any painted surface - but the POR-15 simply conformed to the obvious dings, and refused to come off even when I tried scuffing the dings with a wire brush. From experience: The only "problems" I have had have been prep-related - all surfaces to be treated need to be THOROUGHLY degreased, and all loose material must be removed. Use good portable lighting if needed. Be especially observant to remove rust "blisters" that form on areas like frame rails - using a cupped twisted strand wire brush on a grinder will frequently only "polish" the blisters without removing them, and rust will start to show again at those spots within a few months. The better tool to use is an air-powered needle scaler that will break the blisters. I've seen that with areas that were properly cleaned and prepped the POR-15 even resists passes with the scaler or powered brush. At this point, after 6 months and multiple pressure washes, the POR-15 treated brake parts still have a fresh appearance, with no rust returning. I have only a few remaining areas under the truck to treat, and I still have a can left from the 6 pack. I won't hesitate to reorder more if needed, and highly recommend it, along with the POR Patch, as effective solutions for persistent rust problems.

A huge investment in time and labor, not worth it for the city dweller
Good stuff but truly a nightmare to prep for. I'm not sure I can say this feels like a real DIY product due to the massive amount of prep work. I can see it being useful if you're doing a frame-off restoration and you have a huge garage, but if you're trying to coat parts that are on a vehicle or around other painted/finished parts, you're going to have a hard time. The metal prep will eat up your paint. It will also destroy concrete, which I discovered the hard way when I missed a few drops that had spilled onto a drop cloth and cracked my garage floor. It's very difficult to get the prep stage done according to directions as you have to keep the parts wet with metal prep for 30 minutes straight, while trying to keep it from dripping onto painted surfaces, concrete, etc. The marine clean stuff has ethylene glycol in it, which is a toxic chemical found in antifreeze. Not totally sure where they get off saying you can just dump it in the grass. I did a section of my truck's frame in the yard, but I won't do any more of it without like a kiddie pool or something to put my truck in. Even then, I'd need a safe way to dispose of the water/chemical mixture. In my city, it is illegal to dispose of the prep chemicals other than at a hazardous material processing center, and then only in small amounts. More annoying is that after all of that, the sections I coated will need to be roughed up and painted over, because POR-15 is destroyed by UV light. I won't be using POR anymore, I'd rather use almost any other coating that is easier to apply. The rest of my frame and axles are now rubbed with a nice thick coat of oil that I'll be reapplying once a year or so. Gave the product 4 stars because all of this info is readily available if you look through POR-15's website and data sheets, and it seems to work as advertised.

POR-15: A Mechanic's Review for Long-lasting Rust Prevention
As a mechanic, I've seen my fair share of corrosion damage. That's why I was excited to try POR-15, a highly-rated corrosion prevention coating. Here's my experience after using it for months at work and on personal projects: Pros: Excellent Adhesion: This stuff sticks to practically anything! I've been impressed with its ability to bond to various surfaces. Durable Finish: The finish looks great and seems very tough. Versatile Application: While the product allows application on various surfaces, I recommend some prep work beforehand for optimal results and a longer-lasting, professional look. Overall, POR-15 is a fantastic choice for anyone who needs serious rust prevention. It's easy to use, highly effective, and delivers a great-looking finish with a little prep effort. Here's who might benefit most from POR-15: Mechanics or DIYers dealing with rust issues Anyone looking for a durable and versatile corrosion protection coating Tip: While not strictly necessary, following the recommended prep work can significantly enhance the final outcome

This is one of the best paint products I've ever used on metal!
I have used POR15 for years. In my opinion it is the finest Paint Over Rust product I have ever used. It lasts forever, it seems (if you don't believe me, just get some on your hands)!!! It must be used safely with a lot of ventilation, and hand protection (because if you don't wear hand protection, you will wear this stuff for weeks afterward), and don't overdo your first coat of application. You don't need to be dainty about applying it, but if your first coat is too heavy, it will run and not turn out as good as it usually does. I live in the Florida Keys, and use this every few years on my boat's nozzles when I redo my jet boat pumps. I also use it on anything metal that is exposed to salt air. Apply it like the directions say on the can, and you will be very very happy with the results.

Once you know POR-15, this is the way to buy it.
First, I gotta say that I wish POR-15 would offer an assorted 6-pack of Gloss Black, Mat/Flat Black, and Silver that I once was able to buy. This stuff is awesome! I've been using it for years on mostly car frames and floors, and (somewhat rusty) car parts, but also on things exposed to my Vermont weather. Once you open a can of POR-15 you are obligated to use it. This is why I recommend the small 4 ounce cans. But 4 ounces go a long way! You can, however, drill two holes in the lid and plug them with sheet metal screws to prolong the life of the paint; just remove the screws to dispense what you need. POR-15 has a few other coatings that I like very much; their Top Coat in Chassis Black (aerosol) goes on very nice! You should go their website to educate yourself about it's use, precautions, and recommendations for top coating. Either buy one of their starter kits which includes cleaner, prep and SOLVENT, or at the very least buy the SOLVENT! Once POR-15 gets on anything...it stays there! Wear nitrile gloves and a mask (especially indoors) when you use this paint! Disposable foam brushes are a most! Apparently you can thin and spray POR-15, but I would not recommend it unless you want to spend a lot of time cleaning your equipment or expect to dispose of it afterwards. Read the reviews and heed the tips and experiences!

Worth ever penny, best stuff on the market
EDIT : if you have a partial can , I recommended putting some tape on the lid ro help seal and put it in the fridge to keep it cool, I did that and it was there for 2 months and was still good when I went to use it This was my first experience with por 15 rust preventative, and I'm glad to say if was a positive . Don't let the price scare you, I bought the 6 pack of 4oz cans and 1 can will cover a lot of area with 2 coats it covers very well. I will likly be buying buying a gal next since I think that's the best deal, I was a little concerned at first over reading people's ishues with storage but if u have any experience with paint cans it should be an ishue... keep the rim clean and make sure rhe lide has a good seal and it shouldn't be a ishue I used a spung brush, seemed ro work the best

Seems to work great
So I cant speak to the durability as i used it for the first time yesterday, however it went on well, soaked into the rust and became a hard coating after, the only negative i will say from my experience is wear gloves. if it gets on our skin it stains, and i mean i tried using isopropyl and acetone neither even came close to putting a dent into removing it from my hands.
