Atonement/Pride And Prejudice/Sense And Sensibility [DVD]

Trying to collect all films directed by Ang Lee, I could have bought his Oscar winning 'Sense & Sensibility' separately and quite cheaply. I always look for box set alternatives, to eke out maximum value or get more films from a particular director/actor and this set came up on Amazon. This is the one with Kate Winslett, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman.I had rented 'Atonement' when the DVD came out and really liked it and so I don't mind playing that one again, sometime. Directed by Joe Wright, this is more adult, with a certificate 15 and is a lot darker than your average period drama. Keira Knightley gave a knockout performance, as did James McAvoy, both in career defining roles.'Pride & Prejudice', I'd seen on TV even longer ago and it'd be good to refresh myself with that one. Also directed by Joe Wright, again with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen plus the wonderful Dame Judi Dench.The set I bought was a collector's metal box one. Whichever variant you go for, the three make ideal companions, but bear in mind that 'Atonement' may not suit the very young or very old. As such, it would make a lovely gift to any lover and appreciator of fine British period drama - films that us Brits can be proud of.

3 excellent films for a bargain price.What's not to like.The only thing I would suggest is to improve the outer box of the DVD as it looks a little cheap. E.G printing on spine crosses over onto the back of the box.Good buy for the money though!

Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility are all excellent films. However 'Sense and Sensibility' is my absolute favourite. It is a wonderful escapist romance. It is interesting that Churchill read this book during the war - he could always spot a good narrative. Ang Lee has created an exceptional film which deserves to be enjoyed on a regular basis.

Let down by packaging with no padding at all. Would have been 5 stars if metal casing wasnt bent enroute. Please pad out DVDs properly. Great product. 3 stars due to careless packaging

This review isn't about the film, because after ordering the item TWICE and waiting longer than the usual time frame for delivery the item failed to reach me at two different addresses. Seller refused to resend item on both occasions and processed a refun ld for the item despite me asking for a replacement to be sent. In the end I gave up!

Three great films on one disc.

I bought this for my wife for Mother's Day. We have not watched the Jane Austen DVDs yet but as they should be OK. The DVD Atonement I watched with my carer and neither of us liked it. We watched a good half of it and changed over to Alf Garnett. This might say something about the depth of our taste in not politically correct films. We are easily amused.My wife had seen it the cinema and thought it fine.

I am not a Jane Austin reader so cannot comment on the book-to-film adaptation. But as a relaxing evening film with a nice glass of wine, just sit back and enjoy the charm of a bygone age. Also, excellent value with 3 films!

All of the DVDs demand "check regional code". None of them will play.
