'Complexity is not a prerequisite for success.'
Author/entrepreneur Justin Gesso earned an MBA, had a good run in corporate America, and then made the leap to working on multi-million-dollar startups while pursuing numerous other exciting projects, investments, and passions. Justin speaks to, consults, and coaches startups, small businesses, and micro businesses. He has been featured on The Huffington Post, Lifehack, Big Time Startups, InvestFourMore, Leadership Mastery Academy, inPulse, Zapier, and more.Justin is an innovative writer: he has plenty of information he has organized in a fine tuned manner, but the pleasure is the manner in which he relates this to the reader. For example, in his warm introduction he states, ‘Starting your own business is a big deal! Just by purchasing this book, you’re showing some serious bravery. You’re showing passion, ambition, and desire. You want to make something happen in your life. You don’t want life to happen to you. Creating your own business is risky. Even if you’re just creating a side hustle, you’re risking the loss of your valuable time; you’re risking putting work into something that takes a lot of energy; and you’re risking your pride. Everyone has the same thoughts. “What if I fail? What if I lose money? What if no one likes what I sell, produce, or do?” But I have a feeling you picked up this book because you’ve started to realize that playing it safe is far more risky. You are not content being a cog in someone else’s design. You do not like chugging away—day after day—just to be average. You are pouring the majority of your time and energy into someone else’s company...someone else’s dream. You are doing what most other people do, and you’ve become a blur. Your job defines you, but it’s time to turn the tables. It’s time to design your new life and create the money-making machines to support it. It’s time for you to control your income—and stop letting it control you. This book will get you there. It will show you how to make much more money on your own, spend time how you want, build a simple business, and quit your day job. We’ll do this without putting you at risk financially and without the complexity many people associate with running a business.’Inhale, forget the ‘buts’, and proceed through this very educational journey toward becoming successful financial on your own terms – and without the usual job addiction. Prerequisites: Do you have a desire to create and make an impact? Are you repulsed by being average? Are you willing to identify personal weaknesses and constantly learn? Do you have the ability to exude passion, enthusiasm, and obsession? Do you see the many things that go right in a day (as opposed to the many things that go wrong)?Justin offers a 4 part journey – Lifestyle design, Foundation, Selection, Launch – and each of these phases he outlines well and teaches us while guiding and motivating us down the path he has so successfully trod. There are a lot of self-help books out there – especially at this point in our chaotic economic world – but this one is unique. Solid, rich in advice AND delivered with a realistic good sense of humor. Many bonuses stud the back of the book for more advice and mentoring. Grady Harp, November 17

Better than any other "start a business" book you'll read
I purchased the Kindle and audiobook version of The Book on Small Business Ideas. I found it to be easy, strait-forward and engaging. The reader for the audiobook does a fantastic job too. If I'm ever having a day where I'm not feeling motivated to pursue my own business goals, I listen to this book on the way to work, and it gets me motivated to work harder and smarter than ever before. Even months into reading and listening to it I can still jump-start my motivation - that alone is worth the price to me.Justin offers strait-forward steps to get a side-gig going so that you can make enough money to stop working your way up the corporate ladder. I like this book especially because he's realistic about whether you have to maintain an income to support your family while you get started and that you may be starting from scratch. This is not a get rich quick book, but rather will help you know precise steps (not necessarily easy ones) that can help you start and enjoy pursuing your business goals.I'd recommend this book 100% to anyone looking to get out of the daily grind of your 9-5 job and start pursuing your own goals instead of someone else's.A note about the author: He says many times in his book to feel free to email him. So I finally took him up on it not expecting much. But then he actually replied. You can tell Justin truly cares about his readers and is speaking from personal experience throughout his writing.

So far.... So Good!
I am about 1/2 way through Justin's book and I can attest to the methodical nature of his program, and teachings. His methodology may be challenging for some; those who want an easy way out, or those who believe that ideas should just fall in their lap. For me, I have found that I love his approach to setting goals on a daily, weekly and monthly cadence. I love his chapter on "affirmations" and have already began using them for everything from my relationship with my wife to becoming a better father to my daughters. Although I can't say that I have my million dollar idea just yet, I can say that I have no doubt that if I continue to read his book, follow the teachings AND put in the work, then I will be better for it at the end. The only thing that I see as a missing might be a timeline of sorts, that breaks down the various activities one must complete on their path to side hustle greatness. Other than that, the tools, lists, and ideas presented in the pages are great.

making good money but hating every minute I had to spend ...
I can't rave about this book enough -- or about Justin, who has transformed my life! I was a daily grinder for many miserable years in corporate America, making good money but hating every minute I had to spend in the office. His first book, Leave the Grind Before, gave me the confidence and tools I needed to quit and remake my life and career into something that excited me every morning, which it does now. This Book of Small Business Ideas is the natural next step. The first part helps with creating the proper mindset, which is essential for entrepreneurs, and the second half really helped me be objective about my business ideas. I have so many now that I have been journaling and brainstorming, thanks to the exercises in the book, and I can evaluate them now like a pro to determine their scalability and feasibility so I can focus on the highest gain ones that will produce a passive income stream. In fact, I'm launching a business website next week and feel good about its prospects, thanks to the exercises in this book. This is a must-buy and a fast read. And, more importantly, it's full of good info that will help launch you to the next level if you have a bit of courage, creativity and the drive to remake your life into something wonderful. I should know. It helped me remake mine and I couldn't be happier!
