Proplica Crystal Star "Sailor Moon"

As a huge Sailor Moon fan and collector, this is another one of the "must haves".As far as I can tell, it's an exact replica of Sailor Moon's Crystal Star brooch in the anime. The sounds are straight from the show and Sailor Moon is voiced by the original Japanese voice actress, who also did the voices for the other two proplica. I adore that the lid comes off and it has a little piece in the battery compartment to pop into place to cover the resulting hole. The battery compartment is hidden well and adds to the charm of the proplica. There is a little crescent moon on the back that you press down on to pop the compartment open. Inside is the on/off switch, mode and volume control and the storage for the lid-hole piece.The only difference between the image and the actual product is that the image shows the lid as a pearly pink matte. The actual proplica is a shiny reflective pink.While this proplica is beautiful, I had a few issues with mine that I can possibly write off as just a minor quality control issue. For somebody who isn't a crazy collector, they aren't even a big deal. I am a collector of the RPG toys so I'd rather post it to warn others of the possibility. My Crystal Star has a dent in the lid. The box was in perfect condition so I'm assuming it happened during production. It also has a fingerprint in the gold paint on the left side on the inside. You can see it if you look at my pictures. It's in the little "lump" of ribbon between the bow and the star. (Please be aware that mine was playing when I took the picture so the crystal is lit up pink)However, aside from the minor flaws, this proplica is gorgeous and I love it. This proplica is absolutely gorgeous!The image that Amazon shows is different than what the brooch looks like in real life - it's actually a very shiny pink instead of a purple/pink - but the proplica is beautiful nonetheless. The details are amazing (I'd expect it, considering the price), with no unfinished paint jobs or flaws - and it looks exactly like the brooch Usagi/Sailor Moon has in the show. It's very easy to open the well-hidden battery compartment on the back, and you can use either LR44 or SR44 batteries (I prefer SR44, as they last longer) for the music/voices.It's also possible to take off the lid by the hinge, but that requires a lot of force and can be rather scary. Additionally, the proplica also comes with a little insert that you put in the base if you ever take off the lid, so the base looks complete - the insert is located in the battery compartment. The box and sheath that the compact comes in is well-done as well, and it comes with a little collector's booklet as well.Once again, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. Definitely worth it for any Sailor Moon collector!

I love everything about this proplica except for the mirror. It's not as solid of a mirror as I would have liked. When you look into it, everything looks warped. Besides the mirror, everything else is beautiful and works great. It was easy to put the batteries in. The paint job on this proplica is fantastic. No flaws at all! This is truly a Sailor Moon collectors dream item.

It's very cute but the quality of the materials is not as nice as expected.It's pretty cheaply made and not really worth the price.

Ah, the Proplica Crystal Star from Sailor Moon.This is a replica of the "Crystal Star" compact from the original classic anime version of Sailor Moon from the 90s. It is a higher quality take on the toy compacts that came out during that time.It is as pictured, except the pink area isn't quite such a pearly matte color; it's more of a reflective pink shade. The construction is quite good, and I didn't notice any painting errors (no bubbles in the paint, no chipping, no mispainted sections). It would have been great if, for the price, the stones had been glass instead of plastic; however, that was not surprising for this toy line.The cover can come off, but I have not removed it. The battery compartment is in the back/bottom of the lower half of the compact, and you press a small indented crescent to pop the compartment open. The actual battery slot requires a screwdriver to open, so it's secure. It requires 3 LR44 type batteries. There is an extra piece inside the compartment to place in the hinge slot if you decide to remove the cover and display the two pieces separately. It's in there pretty snugly, and would take some effort to remove.I have read complaints about the mirror being low quality; I found that it's covered with a thin film which you can remove. The mirror underneath appears to have a great reflective quality, but I left the film on to protect the mirror.The Silver Crystal inside is a bit murkier of a semi-transparent plastic than I would have liked; however, it lights up quite well when the batteries are inserted and it's turned on. It only has 2 sound effects - a recording of the original Japanese voice actress saying "Moon Crystal Power, Make Up!" followed by her transformation sounds, and the "Moon Crystal Power" healing ability she uses when she purifies enemies in the R season. (The latter is just the crystal lighting up and a sound playing 3 times). The crystal lights up in red and white depending on which sound effect and light pattern it's set to (transformation or purification power).There is no way to attach this to a bow for cosplay purposes since the bottom is completely flat and smooth; however, its size and accuracy would make it a great cosplay prop for a photo shoot.PROS- Designed based on 90s anime but has a display-worthy look to it instead of the overly cheap style of the toys from the 90s- Sound is very loud and clear when batteries are insertedCONS- While well-made, plastic and rhinestones are cheap and not worth, cost-wise, the premium price tag- Only has 2 sound effects and light combos. Would have been great to have an option to have the crystal just shine/glow for periods, for example.

The condition of the item was awful. There were so many scratches and even discoloration (part of the star on the surface was black). I bought this from Sure Thing Toys (Fulfilled by Amazon). Very disappointed.
