Nice product. Nice package. 10x the price.
These are great, but you're mostly buying packaging here. Compressed towels themselves (in a range of sizes) can be had at a fraction of the price of these if you buy in bulk...

Great for us UL Hikers/Backpackers...
I am always looking for ways to lighten my backpack and stumbled upon these while I was looking for a better/lighter Ultralight Pack Towel. I've always used the Sea to Summit towels and they are just too darn heavy for long trips with a small pack. I took one of these out of its itty-bitty little package when I received them and thought to myself... "Self... there's no way this will hold up to the torture that it is going to receive on your next trip."I took one along anyway, thinking that I would use it as a backup for tent condensation or dishes, etc. It actually handled dish drying duty (Ti Pot and Cup) for a few days without falling apart and these little puppies wring out well and dry quickly when you're done. So, I used it to towel off, after a dip in a stream and it still wrung out without tearing on me. I'm not sure that I could get by with just one for everything you need a pack towel for on an extended trip in the mountains. But, you could take a handful of them, at a fraction of the weight of a S2S or other mainstream pack towel and take up less pack space too. I'm going to try them in the Rockies later this summer and just leave my pack towel at home. I'm pretty confident that a few of them will do the job and still be available to do miscellaneous duty at home when I return. If your going to scrub rough surfaces, use something else. But, if you need something highly absorbent, extremely lightweight, fast drying, and compact, give these a try. I think you'll be impressed with the miles you can put on them and how fast you can dry them out and move on.

Purchased these for my trip (UPDATE)
I purchased these to take along on my European trip, where I happen to be right now. I purchased lots of stuff off amazon for this trip and have used most of them so far including these towels. So far, I've used the towel to wick perspiration from my face while sightseeing. I keep it tied to the strap of my purse so its handy. I also use one for washing dishes (collapsible travel dishes) I use daily. The towels I have are bright orange, and by keeping it tied to the strap of my purse makes me visible to oncoming traffic when walking in unfamiliar places. These towels are very light and absorbant and are actually pretty good quality for such a simple clothl like towel.I wish I had purchased a few more for backup. Also, in my travels I meet a lot of people who are also backpackers, and these would be ideal gifts/tokens to hand out. I can't see anybody not having a need for these.Above all, I like the small size disc they are formed in which makes them so easy to tuck away anywhere. They are worth every penny!I'm on another long trip and currently staying in a furnished apartment. I've used 2 so far for washing dishes and one for cleaning the bathroom. I have a few left from several orders and plan to buy some more on my return trip home. I wish these could be purchased at Wal-Mart or other local stores.

perfect for survival bags!
I bought these on a whim, adding it to a last minute order of some supplies for the emergency bags I've been in the process of compiling. When they arrived I couldn't believe how tiny and light they are! I received one in green, one orange. The towels arrive in small disc-shapes, packaged between two pieces of paper with plastic sealed around the edges. Removing the plastic and paper reveals the spongy disc, which must be moistened with water to transform into a towel.Once unfolded, the towel resembles a cheesecloth-like material. Very soft, but feels fairly durable. They're also surprisingly absorbent, I got it wet and despite feeling only slightly damp I was able to wring quite a bit of water out of it. These can definitely be reused a few times, even longer depending on how and for what they're used. This size in particular is handy for a myriad of things - washing or drying dishes, washing hands, as a face towel, shower rag, etc. Could be cut up and used for bandages, hell even cut into strips and used to mark a trail. You can't go wrong with these - they're SO tiny, light, and ridiculously useful, for all kinds of things. Thank god for impulse purchases, I'm so glad I found these little gems!(Measurements:Before opened, it measures about 1.75" across and about 0.25" width, and 10.5"x13" once fully opened.)

Exactly what I wanted.
I purchased these small towels for my emergency 3-day kits that I am making for my family. The goal was to have some sanitation/cleanup ability in the kits to help clean up and feel human if you are going through hard times. These towels are very small and slide right into the empty corners of my kits, which is excellent.I did buy one extra and opened it to see what I was getting. It was exactly as described, a 12 x 12 towel that needs water to fully expand. They are advertised as machine washable, but not too many times I expect. They are not really a full-time washcloth as I don't believe they would last much past a week or two of regular use. But for camping, or for my kits, a week or two of good hard use is exactly what I'm asking for.If I had to make a suggestion for product improvement, it would be in the packaging. If these are to be used in camping and emergency kits, and if they are activated by water, I would prefer that they would be fully enclosed in a watertight plastic wrapping so they don't get wet before I want them to. If the individual discs were at least relatively watertight, I would probably bump these to five stars.

useful and very practical
Purchased these as an addition to the emergency pack I carry in the car. Excellent they weigh nothing, take up no space at all and do exactly what the makers claim. Having used them to help another motorist (who kindly sent me replacements) I will continue to keep them handy. I also bought a slightly larger one. They are not the toughest towel you could use but weight, size and convenience far outweigh their slightly fragile nature. Treated sensibly they wash and can be re-used several times. A little care is needed to unpack them but this is only common sense.

Excellent for its purpose
I recently bought 2 of these towels to use when out canoeing as pretty much a last-ditch lifesaver to help get dry - We carry larger microfibre towels in our dry bag but for just in case, these Lightload towels are great stashed away in pockets of our boyancy aids along with a space blanket each, and they're great for this.Astonishingly tiny, so light you'd never know you're carrying it, and individually shrink-wrapped (ie waterproof until needed) these couldnt be better for our needs - Sure, their size qualifies them more as flannels than towels and theyre likely pretty much only a single-use in practical terms (no chance of ever getting them packed back down remotely as small as they come originally, even if they do physically last much more than a single use), but for the kind of purpose these are intended, not to mention their low cost, who cares? The negative reviews from people complaining about the small size when opened confuse me, it's not like the product title doesnt clearly mention that its a 12x12 "hand size", and hell, thats why they also sell a bigger one.

Compact and useful
These towels are highly compressed and tightly packaged. Once taken out and moistened, they expand to their full volume, and in spite of the small size, the viscose fabric is surprisingly soft and absorbent, even more surprising is that it can actually be used again and again. They also dry quite fast.To test them, I used one for a week in my kitchen, first for drying my hands, then for cleaning counters, and eventually, as a washcloth around the sink. After the week was over, it looked a little battered, but had it been a real emergency situation, it could have be used some more.Having been in 3 major natural disaster (Seattle's 1993 inauguration storm, the 1994 Northridge earthquake in Los Angeles, and France's December 31 1999 storm), I've learned to always keep an emergency pack at home and in my car. Once I tested these towels, they quickly replaced bulkier and more expensive towels in my emergency packs.

Festival Godsend
I purchased these as a small necessity for my daughter's first foray as a festival-goer to Download 2012. Their compact size was ideal to shove down the inside of her backpack and they are lightweight and unobtrusive. She was pleasantly surprised to find them packed in her bag on a particularly (but also traditionally) wet festival day to help her dry off. The other beauty of these little godsends is that as they are reasonably priced, you don't mind them being disposed of after gruesome festival usage instead of coming home for the wash! Will definitely buy these again (and the bigger sizes) for when the teen next decides to go dwelling in festival swampiness!
