OK but boring
This book has some interesting comments, but it is mostly a boring book to read as are most books about art.

It's a great introduction to how what we think of as "art" ...
This was one of the most fascinating books I read as an art history student. It provides a concise, simple explanation of the evolution of art from representational illusion to flattened object-ness and finally breaking out into the space of the audience. It's a great introduction to how what we think of as "art" changes, along with our visual perception of it. Although this book was written before the Internet and mobile revolution, it makes you think about we have changed from a world of pretend objects, to a world of objects, and back to a world of pretend or "virtual" thing. It was written pre-Internet, and therefore makes you think about what has happened since the book's history leaves off.

A classic
This is an absolute classic which everyone who has anything with art to do should have read, or atleast have dipped into. This edition has pictures which brings the whole thing to life. Depressing truths about the art market are made palatable 'though they still taste sickening.
