None of the kids in her class wear a ponytail, so Stephanie decides she must have one. The loud, unanimous comment from her classmates is: Ugly, ugly, very ugly.” Steadfast, when all the girls have copied her ponytail, she resolves to try a new style. With true Munsch flair, each of Stephanie’s ponytails is more outrageous than the last, while the cast of copycats grows and grows. Review: Great, Classic Read Aloud- Funny Too! - This is a classic folktale story - great for all ages. I love to use this in the beginning of the school year and have even used it for demo lessons as a teacher. Review: Be yourself, don't listen to others - This is a very cute regular size paper back that explores her uniqueness with her hair. Everyone says they hate it but they mimic her. Cute gift for the younger girls.

Just "Be Yourself!"
My daughter goes to a school where girls are not allowed to wear pants but boys can. We raised the issue with the school board and the matter will be taken under advisement, so hopefully the policy gets changed for next school year. In the meantime, we were told by the principal that nobody would be punished for wearing pants to school when it is cold, so my daughter has elected to wear pants instead of her jumper some days this winter. Well one day a boy in her class teased her that she was in fact a boy because she dressed like one at school. She said she told him that girls wear pants too and to just look at their teacher (who is female and, ironically, wears pants almost daily). When she told me about it, I asked her if his comment made her feel like not wearing pants and just wearing the jumper to school and she replied, "No! Not when it's cold. I like wearing pants." We had a discussion about how important it is to be yourself even if others make fun of you for it. After that discussion, I came to amazon looking for books that illustrated the lesson about nonconformity. Stephanie's Ponytail is a lighthearted and fun book that does just that. Stephanie asks her mom to style her ponytail in various ways. Each time everybody at school teases her about her new ponytail, but when Stephanie continues to wear it that way and feel confident, they start to copy her and change their hairdos to be like her. Stephanie gets the last laugh at the end of the book, and my daughter laughed right along with her. This is a good book if you are looking for books to help build your child's confidence and self esteem.

Encourage your girl to be an independent thinker!
Hilarious book about little Stephanie who asks her mom to make her a ponytail because nobody has one in her class. The kids make fun of her but Stephanie says "It's my ponytail and I LIKE IT! The enxt day, all the kids have copied her hairdo. She asks her mom to change her style every day and the same thing keeps happening...the kids make fun of her yet copy the style the next day. In the end, clever Stephanie thinks of a great way to fool everyone! Fun for many ages (even I really enjoy it). I'd say 5-8 is the best fit.

Awesome book/story!
This was my favorite book as a child and reading it now I can see why. The girls got personality and tude. An adorable story unfortunately my old book was falling apart. While recently reading this to my 6 year old I noticed a coincidence. My mother got me this book when I was 6 in 1999. This is one my grandchildren will read. Love this story and so happy to have found it!

tiny tiny book
The story itself We love it.... but this is tiny tiny.... I was expecting a small book, but this is smaller than a kids meal book... I gave it three stars because on the content. Update: I gave this five stars the first time I reviewed it because I was so disappointed with the size, but my three year old is fascinated by these tiny books... It's funny, he wants to read them every day, and the great thing is, he can take it everywhere because they fit anywhere... I don't give it the five stars because, me, the parent, would have wanted these to be a little bit bigger... What it occurs to me that these can be used as party favors, and children love them

One of my favs! A classic!
I just adore Robert Munsch! I recommend this book to anyone who knows a strong willed little one or maybe a little one that needs to toughen up a bit and not follow so much Or for any kid really. Lots of fun but if you don't like words like "ugly" or "brainless" being used this is not a choice for you.
