A Northern Man's Best Friend.
You only get 800 amps through the best jumper cables (if you're trying to jumpstart your truck with someone's small car, then you're gonna need a prayer and time on your side), and technically this product offers 1,000 instant amps. It's very tolerant of cool weather, which is when you most often need a back-up battery when your main one craps out on you from the year round stress. My experiences using this product? When my truck died in my garage (Arctic weather really eats away at your main battery's power, so my lesson was if you're coming up with slow starts in the winter months; try logging in some more miles to charge your battery for a colder night), I tried using my car to jump start my truck with 1 Gauge cables. Initially I tried using this battery to jump start my truck, but I was getting impatient when it wouldn't pop off instantly and 15 minute cycles of waiting; so I went over to the jump cables and found out after 45 minutes I was getting more power from my back-up battery than the cables. So then I went back to the battery and let my back-up battery charge my main battery for an hour and a half. Finally popped off (barely). My estimates from that night were telling me I was getting 3 times more power from this battery than my back-up. The saddest part was I hadn't charged my back-up battery since the summer months and it was severely neglected until I actually needed it. So now this battery is getting a lot of TLC and attention. You don't really appreciate anything until you need them...

The lights worked but have not tried the outlet which is like a cigarette lighter outlet
Got it in two days in new condition. Charged it about 19 hours and then jump started my Honda CRV - 2011 which had a battery that could not even open the door locks, 80% dead I guess. Turning key did NOTHING. It was dead. After hooking up the CAT and turning the red button to the jump start position, I turned the key once and held it for about 3 or 4 cranks (2 seconds?) and it started right up solidly!! Just follow the directions exactly as the manual states. I'll have to see how well it holds the charge. I am recharging it for 24 hours since it was used to start a car. It's heavy duty and straight-forward. Does not charge the battery - just jump starts the car. Your alternator has to recharge the battery so leave your car on or drive for 15 to 20 minutes. The lights worked but have not tried the outlet which is like a cigarette lighter outlet. You need an extension cord type of electric cord to charge the unit and it is not included.

Yellow Is The New Black
** 09/21/2021 Update to 1 star review: As to my previous review below, the instructions for this leave a lot to be desired and basically without fail, every time I would see the jumper batter indicator go to yellow, when I would go to recharge it would show as green immediately. I then later tried letting it charge over 24 hours and various other means but ultimately this false charge scenario was a reoccurring theme through the life of this device and now finally, just shy of 5 years it stopped working/won't take a charge. To make a long and drawn out story short, based on charging issues/user manual contradictions in my use of the device, I cannot recommend, especially for the cost.-------------I have a 74 GMC pickup that I put an Optima Yellow Top in to help with a problem I was (I hope it's WAS) having with something drawing current and killing the battery (I'll spare you the details). Anyway I bought this as a "just in case" and sure enough already ended up using it 4 times and all 4 times it brought my baby, a very, very cold blooded baby mind you, right back to life. Now that I should rarely need to use it wewill see if it holds up and if my experience changes to a negative I'll be sure to update this review; based on my experiences thus far I definitely recommend it. The instructions regarding charging could be a little clearer and so far it doesn't seem multiple uses has changed it from green but I still keep charging it once a month for 24 hours even though it almost immediately goes to green so far.Anyway, I like things to be clear so the instructions could use a little tweaking but at least their understandable and are as basic as you would expect with this type of device.
