Just what we wanted
This was for my son who has an interest in taekwondo. He will start by learning more about what it is with this book and doing some strengthening before we put him into a class. It was delivered quickly and in perfect condition.

Very useful
The author of this work has a range of martial arts books under his belt and has here written a very useful introduction to the arte of Taekwondo. It doesn't claim to be an expensive tome or listing of any and every move. Nor does it claim to be an exhaustive catalogue of training techniques.Instead what you get is a very concise work about the founding of Taekwondo (those with an interest should check out A Killing Art) and then a very useful discussion of some stretching exercises and the reasons for them, some discussion of various basic kicks and interestingly we get a dissection of their strengths and weaknesses. The book throws in examples of some combinations and training ideas as well as pitfalls for the new student. Some of the stuff is pretty general but that's the aim of the book anyway so to quibble would be pointless. Obviously when discussing belt progressions and the like there is some elasticity in how different schools operate and the author makes it quite clear that differing teachers will have varying focuses. The book also talks about competition and preparation for that. There are some (IMHO) some worthwhile thought-lines here the book ends with a bibliography that has plenty of reading matter as well as training videos that could be useful to track down. All up a good book to buy anyone who is starting out in Taekwondo.
