Joyful Noise

This is an eclectic album with lots of wild guitar and flute playing and a variety of vocalists and instrumentals. The grooves are tasty and far from boring. All of the performances are fabulous, and the band is completely tight even as they incorporate completely different sounds and styles on every track. This is my second favorite studio album from DTB after Songlines. Among the instrumental tracks, So Close, So Far Away and Every Good Boy stand out the most; they're both absolutely incredible. Joyful Noise and Kam-ma-lay are my favorite two vocal tracks from the album. This music absolutely defies any attempt to pigeon-hole it into some convenient genre label. It's easily one of the happiest albums I've ever heard, covering a range of emotions from ecstasy to euphoria to bliss to jubilation. I recommend keeping it on your pocket music player at all times just in case you ever need a quick mood-boost. For those who like this album, also try Be In My World by Yonrico Scott (the drummer). It's my absolute favorite.

I am almost ashamed to admit that this is my first purchase of Derek Trucks music.He is an incredible guitar player and this CD is awesome. His band is also very talented and really seem to enjoy playing together. One of my favorite tunes is "Maki Madni" with vocals by Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn. This is also a first for me buying a used CD on Amazon. I have always been afraid to buy used in person let alone unseen. The disc is in perfect shape and I will buy used again. I figure you really have to work at it in order to destroy a Disc. I have already ordered a few more or Derek's albums and cannot wait for them to arrive.

I am very much new to this band. My wife and I are planning to see the Tedeschi Trucks Band this summer in Pittsburgh. In order to get a flavor for the playing, I bought this, and we have bought a couple of Tedeschi Trucks Band albums too. As far as the music on this? It is all over the place. In fact I don't even know what to call it it's so all over the place. One of the most diverse musical albums I have heard in a long time. And the playing is so sweet!! Fully challenging from beginning to end. Never gets old. I am completely tantalized by this CD!

The album is very nice. You get to hear a good number of tunes with Derek playing his wonderful style of lead. Overall the album is definitely worth purchasing. I have listened to it at least a dozen times and it is still very pleasant to listen to.

After being a bit dissapointed by previous 'CHILD PHENOMS' I approched this with caution. No need, TRUCKS delivers. This is a very ecclectic mix of musical styles, ranging from 'WORLD MUSIK' to BLUES and almost 'NEW AGE'. I can't recall another predominantly slide guitarists using his instrument in such varied ways. From the haunting arabic MAKI MAANI to the SALSA feel of KAM-MA-LAY and the BLUES/SOUL featuring SOLOMON BURKE on 3 tracks, everything is absloutely first class. Even TRACKS foray into JAZZ / IMPROV on the 2nd last track is nothing short of brilliant. If he gets any better, it will be scary. Being AUSTRALIEN I always thought DAVE HOLE is one of the best SLIDE players out there, but compared to someone like TRUCKS, DAVE HOLES limitations become obvious. No BLUES cliche's here and no pidgeon hole that could hold DEREK TRUCKS.

Starting off right from the get go. Derek Trucks works his magic on the title track. He teams up with his wife Susan Tedeschi for the song Baby You're Right (previously done by Joe Tex and James Brown). He has Solomon Burke in for vocals on 2 tracks Home In Your Heart and Like Anyone Else. Kam-Ma-Lay has a guest appearance form Rueben Blades on vocals an obvious Spanish styled song. After listening to this CD it is no wonder that Rolling Stone selected Derek Trucks #16 out of the top 100 Greatist Guitarists of all time.

Eh! I love Derek, he's amazingly blessed with talent, but this album was a disappointment for me. There's only two songs on it that I really like.

This is a beautiful album. I've listened to it many times over, and every time I hear something new and subtle from one of theseveral great musicians. The title of the album literally explains what you get. Joyful Noise. Although the term noise I'm using very loosely.
