Great intro to network protocols and packet analysis
I have a computer science background but am new to the subject of computer networking. I found this book to be a very readable, great introduction to networking protocols, packet analysis, and the current version of Wireshark. I read the entire book from front to back in about a week. I was easily able to follow along with the examples, and explore Wireshark. It can be difficult for a book to stay relevant to publicly available software that changes frequently, but as of now this book did a fine job following the features of the available version of Wireshark. After reading this book and working through all the examples, I feel confident that I can do my own packet captures and analyze them to understand what’s going on in my network. I would recommend this book to others seeking a first level introduction to network protocols and packet analysis.

Unbelievable book for Wireshark
I have to admit, since Wireshark is open source program, it took me little while to even learn the basics.. After seeing Professor Bock's videos on lynda.com as she has an entire course on there, I was amazed at how in depth this book was. Professor Bock starts off with the basics, and from there gets into traffic analysis, then installing it on my computer.Professor Bock gets very in-depth on the analysis of packets, the OSI model, and towards the end of the book she gets deeper into Cloud technology. I have been a big fan, I have been in IT for 20 years, and Professor Bock is one of the best teachers online I have used. I know she is known as Security Ambassador in Cyber-Security and am looking forward to here next book!

A must read for IT professionals!
An excellent book on Wireshark written in a simple format with detailed explanations through pictorial views of the interface. Lisa has in her crisp and eloquent dialogue, detailed capabilities of this tool that may be overlooked by the average user. A must read for all IT professionals that deal with movement of data and network protocols. She presents the book in an easy flow that can effortlessly be used as text in a class setting, or by professionals as a reference. Such a book was long overdue! My compliments to Lisa for this extraordinary piece of work”

Wireshark: from a splash screen to the bottom of the bit
I haven't put my hands on the actual book as of yet. However, I have been through Lisa Bock's many lectures on Wireshark and I can assure you that, if the book resembles any of her teaching skills, this book/ebook should contain a wealth of information, tips and tricks on how to maximize your forensics knowledge using wireshark. As a matter of fact, even the novice in cyber security, or even the curious, should make this book his or her must read (and practice along).Cheers!

Comprehensive!
The author takes on this wickedly dynamic subject with graceful descriptions and foundational history. This book is comprehensive in scope. It walks you through practical issues but introduces behind the scenes work (such as EPAN decoding.)There are a lot of helpful screen shots and graphics. It includes summaries and a good index to help manage the wealth of information.

Excellent introduction to network troubleshooting using Wireshark
"Learn Wireshark" by Lisa Bock, an IT professor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, is so much more than a "How to Use Wireshark" manual. It is actually an excellent introduction to network packet analysis using the Wireshark software to capture and analyze network data. Lisa has been teaching IT courses for more than 16 years and is a recognized expert on network packet analysis using Wireshark.Lisa's academic background and experience shine in this book that reads more like an introductory textbook on network protocols and analyzing network traffic to identify potential problems with latency, security, and performance. Learn Wireshark has 16 chapters covering everything you need to know to download, install, customize and use the Wireshark user interface to troubleshoot network issues. Practical examples and walkthroughs are also provided using sample packet captures that the reader can download for free. As in a textbook, each chapter ends with a short “test” to ensure the reader has mastered the content presented in the chapter. I’ve been retired for several years from my 40+ year’s career in IT and really enjoyed using Learn Wireshark to refresh my knowledge on the theory of network protocols and analyze the network traffic on my home network.
