Memoir 44 A New Flight Plan
Memoir '44: New Flight Plan is an excellent expansion that adds a new dimension to the classic wargame by introducing aircraft. This isn't just a simple add-on; it fundamentally changes the strategic landscape, providing new ways to attack and defend. The rules for aircraft are elegantly simple, maintaining the game's core accessibility while adding a layer of tactical depth that veteran players will appreciate. What's in the Box? 📦 The expansion includes a variety of components to support the new rules. You get 16 beautiful, detailed aircraft miniatures representing both Allied and Axis forces. The pack also comes with Aircraft stands to elevate the miniatures, making them visually distinct from ground units. To implement the new mechanics, you'll find Flight Plan cards, Air Sortie cards, and a new Air Power rulebook. The quality of the components is high, consistent with other products in the Memoir '44 line. Gameplay and Mechanics ⚙️ The core of the expansion revolves around the new Air Sortie cards and the Aircraft units themselves. At the start of a turn, players can choose to use an Air Sortie card to bring an aircraft onto the board. These planes aren't static units; they move across the board, performing various actions like bombing runs, strafing attacks, and reconnaissance. The movement rules are straightforward: aircraft move a set number of hexes in a straight line, but their path is determined by the Flight Plan cards. This creates a clever puzzle where players must plan their bombing runs and strafing attacks carefully. The bombing mechanic is particularly satisfying. When an aircraft performs a bombing run, you roll dice to determine damage, similar to ground combat. Strafing attacks target ground units directly and can be very effective against infantry. The inclusion of aircraft forces players to think about more than just ground maneuvers. You have to consider enemy air threats and how to protect your key units from air attacks. Final Verdict: Is It Worth It? 👍 Absolutely. This expansion is a must-have for any fan of Memoir '44. It doesn't overcomplicate the game but enriches it significantly. The new air units provide strategic options that were previously unavailable, and the new cards add a welcome element of unpredictability. The expansion breathes new life into existing scenarios and paves the way for exciting new ones. It’s a great example of an expansion that truly enhances a game without bogging it down with complexity. If you've been looking for a way to refresh your Memoir '44 experience, New Flight Plan is the way to go.

MEMOIR '44 TAKES TO THE SKIES WITH THE NEW FLIGHT PLAN EXPANSION
Days of Wonder presents us with this wonderful expansion for MEMOIR '44. This expansion was released on 6 June, 2019. This date marks the 75th anniversary of the D-DAY Landings and the 15th anniversary of the release of MEMOIR '44. What's in the box? 16 Aircraft miniatures in grey plastic 3 Airplane Stands 30 Air Combat Cards 8 Summary Cards 15 Nation Markers 18 Machine Gun Ammunition markers 12 Bomb Markers 1 Rulebook 1 Scenario booklet with 21 new battles or scenarios The Air Combat cards are a joy to play with. Design of these Air Combat cards is tops. The artwork on the cards is very well done and matches the rest of the art in the game. The text on the cards is very well thought out and it is obvious that a lot of play testing went on here. The way the text in the Air Combat cards is written leaves no room for ambiguity or confusion. I think that anyone that does not understand the cards has either not read the rulebook or does not understand the mechanics of the core game, Memoir '44. To conclude, the Air Combat deck itself paired with the new rules is worth the price of the expansion. These Air Combat cards get a solid 10/10 from me. The NEW FLIGHT PLAN rulebook or instruction manual explains the new rules for aircraft in the game. This aspect probably proved to be the most challenging part in the design process. The rules of the original AIR PACK expansion felt strange and I did feel the need to house-rule those and actually ended up creating my own set of rules for the AIR PACK. The rules for NEW FLIGHT PLAN, however, are very straight forward and were a joy to play with from day one. It takes a few plays to get used to the new rules, but I honestly like them a lot and they fit like a hand in glove. 9/10 The 16 plastic miniatures included in the box are very well done and match the quality found in the previous EQUIPMENT PACK expansion. They come in a grey plastic and when you look at them, they beg to get painted. I will paint these in time, but I'm actually using my own aircraft in 1/144 and 1/200 scales to play the game. The unpainted miniatures included get a 10/10. The 21 scenario booklet could have used more Breakthrough content. There is only one (1) Breakthrough battle. The rest are standard scenarios organised by front. While some of the included scenarios are fantastic and top notch material, I believe the lack of Breakthrough material here is discouraging. I'll give the scenario booklet an 8/10. PLAYABILITY: Once you read the rulebook properly and review the Air Combat cards, you're ready to receive your wings as a Memoir '44 Pilot. It takes a bit of experience to get used to the new rules, particularly the use of Machine Gun ammo markers and dice rolling as a major rule is changed here: GRENADE symbols DO NOT SCORE HITS when using the Machine Gun Ammo marker... it took a bit of playing for the other players in my club to catch up, but other than that it was fine. I also did not have qualms with the LINE OF SIGHT rule where aeroplanes do block line of sight as this rule actually made total sense to me. Others may have issues with this rule. On another high note, I loved being able to combine the Air Combat cards with other Combat cards. This means you can use your Air Combat deck and pair it with the URBAN, WINTER, JUNGLE, DESERT Combat decks if you so like. I personally enjoy pairing the Air Combat deck with the SPECIAL OPERATIONS Combat decks. You will need to get the latter expansions separately. After playing countless battles with the NEW FLIGHT PLAN expansion, the verdict is crystal clear. Get this expansion TODAY, it's a MUST HAVE expansion. It was an absolute necessity to create proper air rules and mechanics for this game. Again, we could have gotten more Breakthrough scenarios in the scenario booklet, but other than that, this NEW FLIGHT PLAN expansion for MEMOIR 44 easily gets a solid 9.5/10. Enjoy and don't forget to wear your aviator sunglasses (also not included). DISCLAIMER: I'm using my own aircraft and my own aeroplane stands as I have not had time to paint the 16 miniatures included in this expansion. The battle map shown in the pictures is D-DAY LANDINGS. Please note that this NEW FLIGHT PLAN expansion does not come with painted miniatures. I have painted each and every single one of these plastic figures as you can see in the pictures shown in this review. This NEW FLIGHT PLAN expansion does not include the SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMBAT CARDS either, you may get those separately. FINAL NOTE: You may visit the official site of the game and download the free BONUS SCENARIOS BOOKLET specially designed for this expansion.

Worthwhile addition to the game
Bought this for my son, who said it definitely added complexity and depth to the M44 game. A worthwhile addition.

Get it and add to previous game play
I have most of the expansions and this one is a must, get it you want be disappointed. This expansion adds an air-power dimension to memoir 44 thus making it a more well rounded and total game. The rules of the game blend well with the current system of play. The rules want take long to learn and can be integrated in most other scenarios that you have played. Adding this expansion to previous games played will add even more fun when played again.

Really Cool and Worthwhile Extension to Memoir 44 Base game/other extensions
Memoir 44 New Flight Plan ads a new depth of experiences and variability to the game play of the Memoir 44 base game and the other extension sets that you can buy for Memoir 44. Very cool miniature planes (unpainted) and a great set of new rules that enable the planes and the plane combat cards to be used with all the other Memoir 44 games - many KUDOS to the game designers...

Great and Much needed update
Memoir 44's air pack has been out of reach for many players for a long time, so it's refreshing to get a pack that finally re-releases these much coveted planes but also makes the rules for them much better. Get it while you can, you never know iff this will go out of stock like its predecessor did

Must-have expansion for Memoir 44
Great expansion with well crafted airplanes will make Memoir games even more realistic. Additional rules are backward compatible with all existing maps offering new strategic options and possibilities. Buying via Amazon with pro service and the fastest delivery in the world have just made my day!

Amazing quality! NOT WORTH THE PRICE
You are better spending you money on an expiation pack or better value would be the terrain pack. This is a really nice set and quality is amazing but just not wroth the price for so little game play it provides. Feels like its over rated to me.

This Memoir 44 expansion is significant to me, both because of what it brings to the game (I've reviewed the core and expansions here on Amazon before), and the fact that this was the last expansion I bought prior to my gaming partner of almost 40 years, Bill, passing on: our favorite game since its release, with a flight expansion (he flew in the Korean Conflict) he would have really enjoyed. This is the second flight expansion introduced for the game (the first was Air Pack), but is by far the better of the two. In the box you get 16 miniatures, a ton of cards and markers, a rulebook to cover the expansion, and a scenario booklet with 21 new scenarios to play. The rules in this expansion are a lot easier to work with than the previous Air Pack rules, which I never liked, and it should not take veteran gamers much time to get used to the new mechanics. A couple of play-throughs will do the trick. What would have been better is if the rulebook was better organized and edited, alas looking a bit like a translation into English with questionable grammar and layout. Still, it is what it is. As for the scenarios, they involve the air factors in various ways, and they are all interesting. I've been through all of the scenarios now, and while some are more interesting than others, there's some standouts. Of course, a lot depends on which side of the board you are on, whether you're defensive or offensive minded, and what the scenario represents. I usually play each scenario from both sides of the board before moving on. Apart from some of the large-map expansions that have been released in the last couple of years, this is the most significant expansion in a long time. And unlike Air Power, which we played for a few weeks then shelved forevermore, I have a feeling that this game would have remained on our gaming table for a long, long time. Alas, I lack a playing partner with the knowledge and depth of experience that my best friend had, but I play these games through solitaire now (do-able with a little bit of flexibility) as a tribute, and think how much Bill would have enjoyed this air expansion. Well worth buying!

Box is bigger than i had expected; same size as the original core game box. Excellent components, and adds a whole new facet to the game. Recommended.

The expansion is NOT WORTH your money if the only game you have is the base game. Essentially you are paying 85$ tax in for: - A deck of air combat cards - 6 total usable plane models for the Americans and Germans. The box does include planes for the Japanese, the British, and the Russians, but these require expansion boxes to even use. - A handful of tokens - A rule book - A scenario book YOU CANNOT USE because 99% of the scenarios require every other expansion pack to work, including packs that have been out of print since 2015. Are the planes cool? Yes, obviously. You get to do some dog fighting, and boom and zooms, and infantry rakes, and it works seamlessly with every scenario in the base book. Is it 85$ cool? No. No way. Total rip off UNLESS you have every single other person expansion already. Again, if you only own the base game, DO NOT BUY THIS unless you REALLY REALLY like model airplanes, because you can only realistically use 1/4 of the boxes contents.
