Nerf for big boys
I hate it when I scratch and dent my expensive toys. This case is like a a GPS case on steroids. Fits like a glove, easy to put on and take off, and feels like it's made specifically for the GPSMAP 62. Oh wait, it is!Ok, so it adds some bulk and some people think it looks funny. "Puffy" and "Nerf" are words someone used. Is it overkill? I don't know. For me, no. I used to carry my unit in a Nite Ize case attached to my pack. Now I just clip this on and go. It's like an already-deployed air bag just waiting to meet a rock or a hard place. Here's how it works. The cord is attached through a loop in the case with two cord locks. Slide the cord locks away from the case and it opens up like a clam shell. Put your unit in, close the clam shell, slide the two cord locks down towards the case to cinch it shut, go for a hike. Could not be simpler. Are there limits? Sure. It doesn't protect the screen or key pad. But if it did you couldn't see where you want to go or push the little buttons. To borrow a word from my 10-year-old, "duh." I put a Zagg screen protector to help shield against scratches.Could there be improvements? Maybe. It would be nice to be able to switch between different types of attachment options. Right now it has a metal belt clip to attach the unit to your belt or a pack strap. How about a carabiner loop? Or nothing at all? I know the cord has a clip on it, but it's a little too dangley.I'd buy this again in a heartbeat. In fact, I'm waiting for a version for my car. Now that would be cool!

Unique Simple Design, Great Protection at a Reasonable Price
This case is split down the middle from top to bottom. The bottom is hinged. There is no clip at the top to hold the case closed; the designer intended that the lanyard stop be used to tightly close the case. This design keeps the case simple which is always a plus when out in the wilds. The case is not waterproof however it is a lightweight plastic that will probably aid if dropped in the water; not that I ever intend on testing it. The outside of the case presents a rough surface that works well when holding it in your hand; I did this on a long hike while geocaching and never felt like I was going to drop it. After using it for a day I could not imagine using my handheld gps without it.Con: the only negative has to do with the case design. Even though the case is easy to open it would be good if there was an opening to the usb connector without having to remove the gps from the case. Everything is a 5 except the case design of 4 and so I gave it a 4 overall.

62 series Wish List fulfilled!
If you have read my previous review for the trusty Garmin 62 series GPS units, I have always included a little product wishlist for little things that they could add value for the consumer. Well, someone at GizzMoVest was listening and made a wonderful, simple, durable, custom-fitted over shell for the 62. WOOOHOO! (hint, hint: they need to make a similar brilliant design for the iPhone and Android). The GizzMoVest seems to literally cover up most of the minor deficiencies of the Garmin 62 design. It provides better impact protection. It recesses and protects the screen from both impact, scratches, and accidental touch. It gives a much more positive grippy feel when handheld, and has a lanyard strap for backup. It allows full access to all of the operating keys and even has a camera port. It even has a removable metal clip in the back for quickly hanging off a belt. The cover opens clamshell style and the Map 62 just pops right in. The lanyard loop toggle (1 of 2) keeps the cover closed.Plain, matte, tactical black is even a good colour choice for most users. Perhaps later, they might consider a safety orange, or glow-in-the-dark version for civilians and rescue personnel. In summary, this is a more practical and well-designed protective shell for the GPS 62 than others that are available (even the Garmin one). Kudos to GizzMoVest.

Good and Bad (And Probably Not Good Enough)
No doubt about it; This is a rugged, well designed case. The exterior is a grippy, rugged material that will give good protection. The interior is lined with fabric, so the GPS unit goes in and out easily. The overall design is simple and logical: It is a bottom-hinged clam-shell design with the top secured by the cord/cordlock.The problem I have is with the belt clip. Several years ago I ruined several pairs of Dockers by using a cell phone holster with this kind of clip. The end of the clip is a metal tang that extends beyond the back plane of the clip and significantly increases the wear at that point.I was aware that the metal might be an issue, but was hoping that the metal clip might be relatively easy to remove: Unfortunately not. I'll probably return the case and wait for the manufacturer to offer a better clip (a plastic clip might raise the price $2). The alternative is to cut or grind off the metal clip and replace it with a one-piece clip I found online called "InstaClip". That would require cutting one or two slots in the back of this case, but the actual contours of the rear of the case may not allow that. It's a shame -- this case could have been better.

A great case to protect your GPS 62S
I've got my hands on a case that appears ready for any sort of conditions. Its got a nice hard thick exterior and a soft inside. Nice black macho look too! The tactile on the outside is rough and grippy. It looks tough and has the quality to last for the rest of your GPS years at least. It is not heavy at all but protects your sensitive GPS like there is no tomorrow! The clamshell not only protects the GPS but is the easiest way to access the GPS. The lanyard has two draw connectors which keep the clamshell from opening. It is simple and very effective. I am surprised it doesn't affect the sat signals and that is a very good thing! It is a marvel of technology and a great purchase. One other note is that I do not have the Garmin 62 with the camera so I ended up talking to Steve at the company and while it isn't advertised he did say if you contact them they will send you a special one without the camera hole in the back! They are great to work with and he did sent me exactly what I ordered and expected. A great buy and a great company to work with! Easiest 5-star rating given so far!
