The Autel MS309 is one of those tools every car owner should have. It was super easy to use, quickly read my check engine code, and saved me a trip to the mechanic. Compact, reliable, and perfect for basic diagnostics at home.

My 2001 Chevrolet Suburban failed inspection due to check engine light/smog diagnostics. I watched a video on how to pass the tests and that guy had this same tester so I bought it and it is very simple, thorough and accurate.

For the price, this is a great scanner. I have a 2005 Jeep Cherokee that has a lot of quirks. I love not having a car payment, so I am hoping to keep driving this vehicle for as long as possible. Recently, my husband’s vehicle needed a jump, so we used the Jeep (which has a new battery), and immediately I got a check engine light. The Jeep had just been at the shop, so I assumed the jump had triggered an electrical code. I had a different brand code reader that I had purchased a few years back. That code reader showed two codes which were seemingly unrelated and hard to believe would occur simultaneously. That reader would not clear the codes, so after an internet search and seeing Autel highly recommended, I purchased this inexpensive unit. As a few other reviews mention, there is no instruction manual included. There is a QR code, but that only takes you to the Autel website, and lol, this product isn’t even on their website, so no manual or instructions. I did find a helpful YouTube video which walks through the process of using this and clearing codes. After watching that video, I was able to quickly find the code causing the check engine. Since the code shown related to a low voltage actually made sense based on using the vehicle to jump another car, I felt comfortable erasing the code to see if it comes back. This code reader did erase the code and in starting the vehicle, there is no longer a check engine light, woohoo. If there were instructions included or an actual website to reference, I would definitely give this 5 stars.

If you are a seasoned mechanic and doing your own work often you might want to get a more expensive reader with more options and more in depth features. If you just want a cheap reader to read your own check engine light codes at home this works great. Very small, easy to use, and convenient to use when those dreaded CEL start flashing.

This device is a must have! Self sufficiency is power. I have an exotic foreign vehicle and the OBD2 scanner works perfectly. I don’t have time to go to the dealer or wait on anyone. I detected the issue, cleared the check engine light - since I know it’s safe to drive temporarily until I get to the dealership. This tool is great for everyone - especially women and first time car owners. It will save you money and time because you know exactly what the issue is that needs repairing. No one will be able to pull wool over your eyes again. Durable and easy to connect. Great purchase!

Works great. Resets warning codes easy.

The price is great and the features described would be too if they worked on the Prius Gen2 and Gen3. The unit is well constructed and has a solidly attached OBD cable with a nice plug. The controls are easy to understand and to use. The feature set is somewhat limited but the price is very low and seems to be a good value. However when I used it on my 2008 and 2012 prii, The only category available that was labeled was 'engine'. There were two other categories identified only by hexadecimal numbers. I could see some information related to emissions and perhaps the engine, but no error codes were apparent. This is despite the fact that my car wouldn't drive and that half the dash lights were lit up including the Master Warning triangle light, the VSC and the ABS lights. This should indicate an issue in the brake system, but there were no codes to be read. I understand that for Prius, its better to have a 'techstream' reader that is more suitable for the nuances of this vehicle. The bottom line is that I would consider buying this nicely designed device for a gas powered car, but if you have hybrid or electric, then this device may not suit your needs. Its going back.

Compré este pequeñín para revisar códigos de mis carros en casa. Es muy rápido, y aunque es muy básico, bien vale la pena; pues lo podemos transportar en la guantera, o con la herramienta. También resulta una gran ayuda si te gusta hacer mecánica en casa, o para dar seguimiento a fallas intermitentes o recurrentes. Todo muy bien. Sin embargo, no pude encontrar la marca Autel por ningún lado ni en el producto, ni el empaque.
