Released in 2019, Amoeba Gig (Live) is the first full-length commercial release of Paul's surprise free concert at Hollywood's Amoeba Music on June 27, 2007. Originally only four songs had seen wide release as the Amoeba's Secret EP, two of which were nominated for Grammy Awards in 2008: "That Was Me" for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and "I Saw Her Standing There" for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance. A few years later, in November 2012, an extended 12-song excerpt of the Amoeba show titled, Live In Los Angeles - The Extended Set, was made available free to PaulMcCartney.com premium members for a limited period. 2 LP set. Review: what a great live show - excellent live show of Paul and its masterfully mixed in Amoeba records of all places !!~!~ I had the abridged version and am so glad I got this complete concert as it it well worth it. I bought Paul Is Live and disliked the crowd noise as it was highly distracting. The audience is still there in this show but sounds like it should not like the abomination of Paul is live. great Japanese disc as always the sound is superb !!!!!! Review: The songs never grow old and they are live - For fans new or old alike listening to Paul McCartney perform live is always a treat. Be it at a live concert or recording of such as with this collection of live songs that were performed in Los Angeles at the legendary Amoeba Records store in he summer of 2007, McCartney and his exceptional band create the energy and the right up front and close and personal energy that a live show entails. Paul McCartney's "Amoeba Gig" captures the event and the sound with precision within the 21 songs that are included on the album; originally, a few samples were released but now a full set of tracks that McCartney performs from "Memory Almost Full" and a variety of classic Beatles and solo and Wings melodies. The album contains a set of fine songs that one may not have any difficulty enjoying and finding a favorite of one or all of the songs because they are too familiar to the listener. The quality of each of the songs are so excellently done and one may forget that they are live renditions, an even set of Beatles "Drive My Car," "Let it Be," and the several that one cannot resist singing along to the great harmonies and be surprised by the very fun end tease of "I'll Follow the Sun," and the still unforgettable piano intro of "Lady Madonna." One cannot forget there was the period after the Beatles, his solo tunes, which he plays half a set as well from his most critically acclaimed albums that may not have been performed live in ages or for the first-time "Calico Skies" from "Faming Pie" and the heart wrenching tribute to fellow Beatle John Lennon "Here Today" that was originally written and recorded shortly after his passing and the studio recording can be found on the 1982 album "Tug of War," and there are few more surprises that have one doing a little dance and shuffle with the very Vaudevillian "Baby Face." For this listener every song is a delight and McCartney and band play it with much diversity, from classic, folk, slow ballad, to what he plays best rock and raunchy but still thumping "I Saw Her Standing There, "I've Got a Feeling," and "Nod Your Head." And the chatter in between each song is not bad at all either -- a fun time indeed. From an overall stand point, the album only proves that the songs of Paul McCartney keep getting better and show no signs of diminishing through time. If one can start clapping and dancing and humming or singing to each without a care in the world, they have to be good.

A Favorite McCartney Live Album of Mine. Full Show. Excellent Remix.
I never would have thought that an atypical gig inside the Ameoba Records store in Hollywood, CA on June 27, 2007 would be one of my favorite Paul McCartney live albums but it is. This is the first time the full 21 track show has been released on CD and LP. (Until now all us fans had was the "Amoeba Secret" 4 track EP released on November 13, 2007.) The remixed sound on this 2019 CD is excellent and this show has an intimacy to it that comes through when you listen. Even Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara were in the audience. One reviewer who still gave this a 5 Star rating said the only downfall is "Do we really need another version of "Hey Jude" and Let It Be"? Yes, we do. "Hey Jude" was a big hit and is a great audience participation song and "Let It Be" is a classic I want to see and hear live in concert. Another reviewer in 2007 for the LA Times said Paul McCartney plays terrible song at intimate gig (paraphrase) referring to "Nod Your Head". How stuffy can you be? "Nod Your Head is just fun and whimsical. Opinions differ though and that's OK. In my opinion, McCartney was at his vocal peak on the 2002 "Back In The U.S." Tour, which I saw live. That said, Paul is still in great voice at Amoeba and while 1993's "Paul Is Live" is a good album, Paul's voice had a roughness to it that is clearly evident on the opening number "Drive My Car". Amoeba has the same opening song with a better vocal, The only song I missed that was not in the setlist was "Yesterday", a true classic that would have been perfect to play in this intimate setting. My favorite McCartney live album is "Back In The U.S." (the European version was called "Back In The World"). My second favorite is this one, "Amoeba Gig". This is an intimate 5 Star McCartney concert I will be listening to for years! As a closing note, I still think McCartney sings well at 75, which is the age he was when the last songs for his 2018 "Egypt Station" album were recorded. Thanks Paul. I'm looking forward to what you do next.

In his 60s, Paul at the absolute top of his game (with a great band)!
This CD is just fantastic -- it shows that Paul McCartney is not only arguably one of the great songwriters of all time but also one of the greatest live performers. On a tiny stage in a record store that I've been to many times, Paul and his band clearly put on an incredibly tight yet intimate show. I saw Paul a year or two earlier at Staples Center with a huge stage show, which was great too. In my opinion, the period of 1997 to 2007 (from Flaming Pie through Memory Almost Full) was Paul's best as a songwriter since the Beatles, and his voice and hands could still hit all the notes. Its just inspirational that a guy could do that in his mid 50s --> 60s. Thank you Paul for everything you have shared with us all these years.

First time on vinyl, not perfect but a must own!
I have always loved the 2007 album Memory Almost Full and because of that I have tried to own everything related to that album. On vinyl you could only get about 5 songs from this perfomance and the quality is really good. Glad that it is now on vinyl with the whole thing! The records came with no warps and quiet wax, so nothing to complain there! The original EP was supposed to feel like a bootleg (it does) and it seems they tried to do the same here. Having similar label on the records and inner sleeves that mimic the EP's back cover. Sadly, they released this 2LP set inside a single cover. Why not include a gatefold? I always think that 2LP without a gatefold feel cheap. Paul has even released gatefold sleeves with single record albums! I hope this isn't just to be cheap and it's for making the record feel like a bootleg (like the original intended). It still an amazing live perfomance and first time on vinyl! I sure hope they re-release the record this perfomance came from (Memory Almost Full). It needs a reissue on vinyl.

Fantastic Music Played at the Amoeba Record Store
Not quite a concert really, but performed at a record store in Hollywood in 2007. Apparently, only 1000 people knew about it. But the music is modern era Paul McCartney performing new and old selections. Twenty-one Great songs were sung and played by Paul. I saw Paul in San Diego on June 2019, and he is a terrific performer, completely relaxed, full-voiced, came into his very best after many years. Buy this album for its many memories, great music and songs. You will hear and feel all the fun he is having that evening. You will enjoy it as much as I do.

Outstanding...........
Never having heard the album, or even knew of the existence of the recording, I ordered on a whim thinking the track listing looked pretty good. Am blown away by the performance - sounds like Paul and his band were having a ball. Small venue, an appreciative crowd of under a thousand according to liner notes, and Paul's personality coming through front and center. This is one fun listen - highly recommended to anyone with even a passing acquaintance with Paul and the Beatles. And the recording of this gig is top notch to my ear. I like live recordings as there is most often an energy that is often muted in studio sessions. No shortage of energy here.

One of his best live albums
Awesome! I already had the UK-only disc that was 10-tracks and given away with the Daily Mail. This one boasts a fresh new mix and expanded to include the complete show. Unlike most McCartney live albums, which are generally compiled from a tour's worth of shows (with 'Unplugged' being a notable exception), this is a one-off show. Naturally this leads to an improved sense of continuity. The band sounds great, Paul's in great voice, and there are some great renditions of tunes you won't find on any other official live albums (including Beatles' I"ll Follow the Sun and the great later-era solo epic "House of Wax").

Fantastic album
What an amazing album. Great live atmosphere in a small venue. Great pressing on LP too. Paul and the band are obviously enjoying themselves and on great form. Brilliant and emotional version of "Here Today". Would definitely recommend.
